"Open Your Eyes" as written by and Michael J. Mushok....
As I walk along these streets
I see a man that walks alone
Distant echo of people's feet
He has no place to call his own
A shot rings out from a roof overhead
A crackhead asks for change nearby
An old man lies in an alleyway dead
A little girl lost just stands there and cries

What would you do, if it was you
Would you take everything
For granted like you do

A boy just thirteen on the corner for sale
Swallows his pride for another hit
Overpopulation there's no room in jail
But most of you don't give a shit
That your daughters are porno stars
And your sons sell death to kids
You're so lost in your little worlds
Your little worlds you'll never fix

You turn away
You turn away
You turn away
You turn away
As I walk along the streets
Soaking up the acid rain
Underneath the taxi cabs
I hear the streets cry out in vain

General CommentAcc. to Aaron, "The lyrics are very old. Those are from like 10th or 11th grade in high school. For some strange reason while we were in recording I was having a hard time coming up with something for it. Sitting there, listening to it over and over again to have some sort of inspirational moment, these lyrics to this old song from a long time ago came into my head. I don't usually write observationally, I usually write introspectively, and this song is very observational."

General CommentI don't get it. Whenever people like Aaron Lewis or Scott Stapp make music that is absolutely amazing and truthful, people like phil here have to put them down? Why? Because it breaks that sugar coated world that people like that live in. Open Your Eyes is one of my favourite songs because that's what it does- opens my eyes and speaks the truth

General CommentShows how no one in society gives a fuck about other people. The system is what ruins society. Its fucked up and I think Aaron is showing that in this song. General CommentThis song, Aaron wrote while he was in high school. He usually writes introspectively, but this is one of few where he wrote observationally.
