"Wash" as written by Stone C. Gossard, Jeffrey Allen Ament, Eddie Jerome Vedder, Mike Mccready and Dave Krusen....
Oh please, let it rain today
This city is so filthy, like my mind in ways
Oh, was a time, like a clean, new taste
Smiling eyes before me, inches from my face
Wash my love (2x)

Wash my love, yeah...

Sin the sale, buying just a need
Just who planted, all the devils seeds
And what the truth, and the truth that lies at home
It's on the inside, and I can't get it off, yeah...
Wash my love (2x)
Wash my love, yeah...

What's clean is pure, but hey, I'm white on the outside, though I stray
What she don't know today, might kill us both tomorrow, bring it back someway
Bring it back, bring it back, back to the clean form, to the pure form
Wash my love (8x)
Ooh...

General CommentI feel I'm missing the point. as if Eddie is trying to say something, and I miss it completely.

But still- it's a great song.

General CommentMaybe there's some hidden message, but it seems to me it's just about prostitution and lust. That outside he seems respectable "I'm white (pure) on the outside", but secretly he's obsessed with sex "the truth that lies at home It's on the inside". It also seems like he's actually married but still sleeping around (probably with prostitutes) "What she don't know today, might kill us both tomorrow"- physically but it could also kill their relationship.

General CommentSeems like a song about drug abuse to me, but it also seems to be about 27 other things, so who knows? Eddie has such a way of making a song have multiple meanings.

General Commentthats what i love about the band your view of a song will be diffrent from everyone else in this world.
to me i think someting to do with ataxia. only because there is a band called ataxia and have a song with around the same meaning as this song (hence the name ataxia). i think that someone is afraid to speak out about something and it might kill their love to their lover or something. sort of like a stage im going throught (only being 15) when my mind is my own. hoping to get it sorted out soon though.

i wont have to play ataxia and wash my feelings to myself!! (think about that line i wrote)

General CommentYou haven't heard this song until you buy "The Versus Sessions". The drumming is nothing short of spectacular.

General CommentThe new years eve 1992 version that came with the fanclub preorder of this song blows the studio version straight to fucking hell,....

That has got to be the most amazing transformation of a song I've ever heard,... from the slightly mellow version of the studio to the all out intensity that comes on that bootleg,... wow,..

General CommentThis song makes me think of NY. The city is so filthy, sexy, dirty. It makes it hard to be clean, even one who is white on the outside. And so you stray, just for a bit...maybe by being with the wrong girl, guy, hooker, drugs, or anything really. The next day you wake up and want the whole city, whatever happened, to be washed away. It's so hard though, because the city and your mind are both filthy.
