He says to her he wants it easy
He expects her, to be easy
He wants it, to be, easy
But she says no, but she says no, I don't want to
She says no, she says no, I don't want to
He expects it too, easy...

But she says stop, you gotta stop
When he says go, you still gotta stop
When she says stop, you gotta stop } (3x)
When he says go, you still gotta stop }

He wants it, he wants it
So badly he wants, he wants it
But she says no, she says no
She says, 'go to hell if that's all you want me for', she says no...

When she says no, you gotta stop
When he says go, you still gotta stop
When she says no, you gotta stop
When he says go, you still gotta stop, yeah...

She did nothing to deserve it
He just wants, he wants to observe it
We sit back, like they taught us
Keep quiet like they taught us
He does nothin' to remove it
He's just as hurt `cause he wants to prove it
We sit back, like they taught us
Keep quiet, just like they taught us
He just wants, he wants to prove it
He's just hurt, she don't remove it
We sit back, like they taught us
Like they taught us, like they taught us...

    General CommentThe latter part of this song takes its lyrics from the Fugazi song Suggestion. The theme that runs through the lyrics is very similar in both songs.

    General Commentcurrently (this week) this is my favorite pearl jam song. if you don't know where to find it, get their show in Den Haag, Germany from 1992 (pearljamlive.com has streaming audio of it).

    It's about rape. rather, it's about saying rape is not good... fantastic song... great meaning.

    the last part is about society doing nothing about such a pervasive issue. "We sit back, like they taught us..." Society does nothing/not as much as we NEED to to stop rape.

    General CommentPJ always speek so loudly for womens rights, pro choise, against domastic violence;
    Its really greate, but you gotta wonder-
    how much difference does it really make?
    I dont know, I guess some things never change...
