"Muskrat Love" as written by and Willis Allan Ramsey....
Muskrat, muskrat candlelight
doin' the town and doin' it right
in the evenin', it's pretty pleasin'

Muskrat Susie, Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug
Out in the muskrat land
And they shimmy
And Sammy's so skinny

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jinglin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

Nibblin' on bacon, chewin' on cheese
Sammy says to Susie
"Honey, would you please be my missus?"
And she says yes with her kisses

And now he's ticklin' her fancy
Rubbin' her ties
muzzle to muzzle now
anything goes
as they wiggle
and Sue starts to giggle

And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed
Singin' and jinglin' the jango
Floatin' like the heavens above
It looks like muskrat love

General Comment"Muskrat Love" is a soft rock song written by Willis Alan Ramsey depicting a romantic liaison between two anthropomorphic muskrats named Susie and Sam. The song was first recorded by Ramsey himself on his sole album release Willis Alan Ramsey (1972) on which the song was entitled "Muskrat Candlelight" referencing the song's opening lyric. A 1973 cover version by America - re-entitled "Muskrat Love" for the lyrics which close the song's chorus - was a minor hit: a 1976 remake by Captain & Tennille afforded the song its highest profile, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot 100

General CommentBack in the 70's, Musk was a main ingredient in men's cologne. When people talked about what attarcted people to one another it was a lot of times the "musk" that they gave off. Maybe the song has something to do with this.

General CommentI grew up in the 80's and didn't hear this song much, yet now when I hear it I get misty-eyed for a generation that I didn't even live in! I wish I lived in a time when this sort of thing is considered Pop. The overall sound and harmonizing seem to represent to me what the music of the early seventees were like. The time when there was more optimism and a hippie feel that soon disappeared from mainstream. I love this silly song about rodents screwing.
