The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
I'm over it
You see I'm falling in the vast abyss
Clouded by memories of the past
At last I see
I hear it fading, I can't speak it
Or else you will dig my grave
You feel them finding, always whining
Take my hand now be alive
You see I cannot be forsaken
Because I'm not the only one
We walk amongst you feeding, raping
Must we hide from everyone?
I'm over it
Why can't we be together embrace it?
Sleeping so long taking off the mask
At last I see
My fear is fading, I can't speak it
Or else you will dig my grave
You feel them finding, always whining
Take my hand now be alive

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
i suggest everyone go buy the soundtrack..it is wicked awesome and that everyone download this song.
This song is very powerful. It makes a big impact on my soul.
this song kicks ass. it's about getting over a relationship and coming to the realization that we're all human and we have to get over things. we have to deal with life, unfortunately.
I bought that soundtrack. I never stop listening to it. I just love the way Jonathan Davis sounds in the movie. Too bad he isn't on the soundtrack.
gr8 song indeed ! its about how to get over the sorrow of breaking up with a relation!
Yes it is. For my input, see chester benningtons song on the soundtrack.
i heard korn wasn't on this song, just that jon davis wrote it.
jon did indeed write it but no korn is in it and jon wrote most of the sound track and i think the sountrack is well worth the 15 dollars i am one of the biggest korn fans there evr was as far as knowledge goes but with merchandise i havent got much except untouchables a month eraly cuz i couldnt wait for it to come out i got a great copy of it that is not a bootleg it is cd quality and worth the cd i traded later judd
this song isnt about a relationship...all the songs jon davis wrote for the soundtrack are about the movie in the style of the fictional band "The Vampire Lestat"...it's lestat talking to the other vampires about how sick he is of having to hide from humans.
I agree with i love liana in saying that this song is all about Lestat telling other vampires that they should not hide from humans. Even though I have not seen Queen of the Damned, I sort of understand the story a little by watching Interview with a Vampire. This is an awesome song.
