Ordinary people, some good others evil
Ordinary people, life aint got no sequel 2x
Jump on the subway, riding through the underground
If a punk jumps up you gotta beat the sucker down
Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, singing reggae
And with this funky music I get nuts like a Payday
Hey taxi driver take me where I wanna go
235 E. Lane we got a show
people get drunk , start throwing fists ,
hey doorman am I on the guest list
hey baby can I get a kiss on the lips
to the wishing well so I can make another wish
not on a dish, serve it up on a platter
making this to make y’all a little bit phatter
So many times people try to find
What they lookin’ for but it’s a lie
Ordinary people, some good others evil
Ordinary people, life aint got no sequel 2x
There’s a party at 235 E . lane
With a lot of beer , a lot of champagne
You gotta look up cause we’re playing on the roof
You gotta get down with the 100 proof
Cop in the street and he’s moving to the beat
Cars are coming but he gotta take a leak
Don’t start beef you’ll be up shits creak
Just groove to the sounds make you wanna freak
Beer bongs from the roof, low riders passing
Fly girls dancing and the DJ scratching
Saturday night and the parties packed in
Girls are looking good and the fellas are mackin’
Not an ordinary party with a wack band
By the end not a person could stand
No fights broke out, cause it was all cool
Get ready to party when we come to your school
So many times people try to find
What they lookin’ for but it’s a lie
Ordinary people, some good others evil
Ordinary people, life aint got no sequel 2x
Wake up, get up on my way
And yeah I got a lot of bills to pay
Got fired from my job just the other day
Collect unemployment on the first of May
Well hey, she looks tight
Do you wanna go to my party tonight?
Everyone’s invited so tell ya friends
Cause this is how we do like every weekend
I get mine, got lovin’ like Sublime
Get down like James Brown when I bust a rhyme
All pissed off cause my car got towed
And no one paid me the $ I’m owed
Well shit happens, might not go your way
But that is, ordinary
In the strip club. look for love in wrong places
A lot of ugly people have nice faces
So many times people try to find
What they lookin’ for but it’s a lie
Ordinary people, some good others evil
Ordinary people, life aint got no sequel 2x

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
