In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
raum der zeit - space of time
im a gay, im a jew
and im a communist too
im black and handicapped
but just as human as you
im highly intelligent
but stupid as sauerkraut
im beautiful, im ugly
im fat and well built
thers nothing, nothing about you
that make you better than me
and if you cant deal with that
its no one elses fault
your just one in a million
and thats what youve got to accept
your just one of a million asses in the world
your values your norms
morality and laws
are disposable and rplaceable
just emty babble
today valid tomorrow vain
the day after tomorrow reversed
wgats right and importants here
is somewhere else cursed
all of your gods your churches
beliefs prayers and religion
are today holy tomorrow sacrilige
day after tomorrow scorned
and power and fame
and immorality
at closer inspection aint worth shit
your not the center of the universe
your just an ass in the space of time
im a gay, im a jew
and im a communist too
im black and handicapped
but just as human as you
im highly intelligent
but stupid as sauerkraut
im beautiful, im ugly
im fat and well built
thers nothing, nothing about you
