"Haunted" as written by and Peter Thomas Steele....
A swollen sun melting in the horizon
Between the sheets where I wait for her to come

A living flame, impossible to resist
Burning me deep with every bite, kiss and lick

I'm haunted
I'm haunted
I'm haunted (by her)

Invades my sleep with tumescent intentions
Hades I'm sure must be missing a demon

I hate the morning
I hate the morning

From the panes a green mist swirls
Is it a shadow of reflection?
This apparition in moon beams bathed
A voice like wind through trees beckons
Cool rain on hot summer stone
The odor fills my presence
Of freshly dug grave and death and night
These things are her essence
Nocturnal mistress, spirit lover
Your mouth of wine and wooksmoke taste
My goddess of the violet twilight
You are lust incarnate
In the sweat of my bed
The eastern sky hints of dawning
Alone and awake but exhausted I lie
Oh how I hate the morning

I hate the morning (light)
I hate the morning (light)

General CommentI've always kind of interpreted this song as a dream, or at least something of that nature. The beginning of the song mentions the sun melting in the horizon, indicating nightfall. Also, the part about him being in bed waiting for her. After this, the woman comes into the picture and is gone when the sun rises. So, if it were a dream, the sun rising would mean that it is time for him to wake up (as is mentioned) and it would take away his time with the woman, causing him to hate the morning. Whether or not that is the intended meaning of the song, I honestly don't know. This is just how I see it. Truly beautiful words and music; probably my number one song.

In my honest opinion, this song contains one of the most accurate passages that describes what it is to truly love someone (at least if you are inclined toward "darker" things). If anyone reading this has ever found themselves lying awake at night and dreaming of someone, then they can relate to this song perfectly, regardless of inclinations. "

    Agreed. Awesome song.

My InterpretationI may be a bit biased, since I have lost the love of my life at a young age (30), but to me, this song is about dreaming of your lost love, and being pissed off when that time comes to an end.

The poem spells it out: "Of freshly dug grave and death and night
    These things are her essence
    Nocturnal mistress, spirit lover"

She's dead and gone, but not forgotten. She visits him in his dreams each night. Beautiful poetry and imagery of a bittersweet moment.

By far one of Type O's best songs, but I love much of their collection. This one especially hits home after losing my fiance.

General CommentThis is THE song that got me hooked on TON. I heard a coworker playing this track and heard "I hate the morning..." and thought, you know what? Me too, dammit. But then I heard the whole song and I was blown away. I HAD to get the CD!
