"Buddy" as written by and Evan Dando....
She's comin over we'll go out walking make a call on the way she's in the phone booth I'm looking in there comes a smile on her face there's still some the same stuff we got yesterday there's still some the same stuff we got yesterday I'm too much with myself I wanna be someone else I'm too much with myself I wanna be someone else so we take off out Fiona's door walk untill it's light outside like before when you were on the phone we have to laugh to look at each other we have to laugh cause we're not alone as the cars fly up King Street it's enough to startle us it's enough to startle us I love my drug buddy my drug my drug buddy I love my drug buddy my drug my drug buddy

General CommentIt was originally called "Drug Buddy" on the first release of Shame About Ray. When they did the next pressing of the album (when Mrs Robinson was added to the end) the name got changed to "Buddy" because radio stations wouldn't play it because it had "drug" in the title.

It's about scoring drugs on King Street in Newtown (suburb of Sydney).

General CommentAs I recall the title was changed to Buddy because Wal-Mart refused to carry it with the original title.

General Commenthaha i love this song it just is basically saying that he loves his drug buddy... i actually think that they are friends but i also think they like each other. i dont know if she was smiling when he was looking in the phone booth because she knows he has the shit but because she is jsut happy to see him.. maybe both. but this is a sweet song.. reminds me of me and my drug buddy

General Commentpartially, i like to think of it as being more about the kind of relationship you share with anyone wherein you might engage in what might be considered somewhat self-destructive behavior.

i've also always loved this part: "we have to laugh to look at each other. we have to laugh cause we're not alone." -- i like they they actually have to laugh. i'm pretty sure i've been in this situation before. not sure i should be admitting that.

also, love this: "i'm too much with myself, i wanna be someone else. i'm too much with myself, i wanna be someone else." -- it makes sense in many ways with actual regards to the song... various form of escapism, to escape yourself for a little while. i like it more in a general way though, doesn't need to be in context. it's very applicable to my life.

lastly, i just love an evan and juliana duet. they both have such distinct, beautiful voices.
