"Such A Shame" as written by and Mark David Hollis....
Such a shame to believe in escape
A life on every face and that's a change
Till I'm finally left with the eight
Tell me to relax
I just stare
Maybe I don't know if I should change
A feeling that we share
It's a shame
Such a shame
Number me with rage
It's a shame
Such a shame
Number me in haste
Such a shame
This eagerness to change
It's a shame
The dice beside my fate and that's a shame in these trembling hands
My faith tells me to react I don't care

Maybe it's unkind if I should change a feeling that we share
It's a shame
Such a shame
Number me with rage
Tell me to relax
I just stare
Maybe I don't know
If I should change a feeling that we share
It's a shame
Such a shame
Number me with rage
Such a shame write across my name
Such a shame this eagerness to change

General CommentThis song is about Luke Reinhart's "The Dice Man," wherein the main character uses a roll of the dice to determine his daily actions and add a measure of uncertainty to his otherwise mundane life, which is borne out by the line "The dice decide my fate." "A life on every face" is reference to the face of the die, each one reflecting a different path for the narrator to follow and a different life for him to live. It all makes perfect sense! Really!

General CommentAnd, if life can be lived by rolling a die, what does this say about about the concept of Free Will? Is life only a n-sided die plopped down in a geography? Free Will is only an illusion?

General CommentI think that if we consider "number me" meaning "name me" or even better "choose me" everything else has more sense. In some direct version of the song this words are added: "Write it across my name"
