and my skin she said it shakes
so hard the gears are falling off
and the walls, they seem to jump out of place
and fly like kites in outerspace

and we're running out of here
prepared to throw ourselves off somewhere
i'm lightheaded and can't explain
i'm lightheaded and can't explain

and my stomach, it feels like
hummingbirds the size of bullets are caught inside
and the walls, they seem to burst thru the planes
and fly like kites thru outer space

and we're running out of air
prepared to thro ourselves off somewhere
i'm lightheaded and can't explain
i'm lightheaded and can't explain
and my skin she said it shakes
it's hummingbirds the size of space

General Commentthis song, to me, is about a boy and a girl being in love, and how their love is like a drug, and how it consumes their world (or at least the writers world). he's shaking when he's with her...thats how strong his love for her is (or the love in their relationship). the love makes his world surreal, when the walls seem to jump out of place and fly like kites in outer space. "and we're running out of here, prepared to throw ourselves off somewhere" - they are prepared to do anything as long as they're together. their love is all that matters. "and my stomach, it feels like
hummingbirds the size of bullets are caught inside" is another/new metaphor for being in love. which is beautifully used in this song. instead of using the old boring one with butterflies in my stomach, he uses hummingbirds which adds to the originality of the song. mat devine uses words in such beautiful ways...like instead of having the girl say that he is shaking, his skin is shaking. which is kind of an innocent comment...pure and youthful. another aspect of the lyrics that strengthens the theme of young love, is how he chooses to spell 'through' as thru. this is informal, and mostly used by teenagers/being, so again - youth. the different spellings in the lyrics has another meaning too...that one should look up/listen to the words of the song in order to get its meaning, and to understand all its beauty! thats all for me, thanks! :)
and sorry for the long post.

General CommentI love this song. Just, really. I think Mat Devine is a genius. The lyrics just make everything seem so beautiful and surreal. I can't listen to this song without turning up the volume, and dancing around like a maniac.

General CommentMy God, this song is ... well ... amazing, for lack of a better word already in existence. Mat Devine is just so... Wow... How can someone write this well and still be human?
It's a perfect love song. It expresses so much tender feeling and innocent affection, not to mention how original the lines are. It's not just the same old cliches. Every time I hear it, I either turn it up or I play it very softly in a darkened room, and I just sit still and listen. My favorite parts are:

"and my skin she said it shakes
so hard the gears are falling off
and the walls, they seem to jump out of place
and fly like kites in outerspace"
    And:
"And we're running out of air
Prepared to throw ourselves off somewhere
    I'm lightheaded, can't explain
    I'm lightheaded, can't explain"

I am getting a tattoo soon, and I think that in honor of the band and this song, I may get a hummingbird.

General CommentHm, well, I don't really consider this long song. To me it could mean, like, a new beginning? Like when you're doing something you've never done before but you've always dreamed of. It's like singing on stage for the first time and you're all nervous and excited. The lights are so bright and you feel dizzy for no real reason. You're shaking and scared but prepared to just throw it all away for that one moment of doing the thing you truly love.

The 'kite through outer space' - Could just mean everything feels so free but, at the same time, there's that one string holding you down to earth. You're ready to just fly away but there's that one things holding you back. And you're running out of air because you're being suffocated by you're enclosed surroundings. By all these things holding you back but still there's that strong desire to just break free and jump onto the stage.

'It's Humming Birds the size of Space' - Could mean that, when you get that strong urge or desire to do something, it completely takes hold and becomes all you think about. It goes on into infinity and keeps growing. Like space.
