"Paid Vacation Time" as written by and Omar/bixler Rodriguez....
So we see the opportunities
Stitch and thread
With no down payments
Our neighbors see it through their
Own eyes so that the others hear
The story, the grapevine
Dot your I's, cross your t's
This forfeitures the burden of another
And all those friends you thought you had
Are laughing at and not with you
And all those friends you thought you knew
You'd trade it all for a tank full of fuel
Bel aire colonial deluxe number five
All the warmth that a boy can give
Sheepskin costume
I'm a truant officer

General Commentthis song is about getting away. the title "paid vacation time" i think is referring to running away from things, not awlays problems, and it is paid for through suffering. the second stanza clearly explains it, the friends you though you had are not really your friends at all, they act like it to fit in or be cool or something childish like that and when you realize they are laughing at you not with you, you what to get away, not really commit suicide but get rid of those fake people hence trade it all for a tank full of fuel, to drive away from them. i am not sure what the bel aire colonial deluxe number five is but it reminds me of ordering at a drive through like the band name kinda. all the warmth that a boy can give is referring to the love of a naive person similar to a child that seems hollow after the realization of his fake friends. the sheepskin costume refers to how the fake friends are fake, a sheepskin is taken from something else like the child's purity before his fake friends. the sheepskin costume is noticable to someone that knows. the kind of costume to hide fucking fake ass friends from naive pure children. the truant officer is someone that catches late students in a school. if you think of life like a school the truant officer would be the one punishing the student that realizes the fakeness of his fake friends too late. i fucking hate fake people! this song is so fucking true. when i figured out the lyrics it changed me like the way fucking fake people change naive pure child. another example of just how real and great atdi is!

General Commentdid you actually read the song or the meaning i posted or are you just whining about how you yourself are fake and must try to insult me in your fake way. you desperately need to hear atdi songs so they can open your eyes allowing you to see your own pitiful self. somehow it is not at all surprising that you dont understand the song. hopefully when your eyes are finally opened your are human enough to take back your words and grow up. you people are the reason atdi writes these songs. communication deficiency, i dont think so, maybe you have a reading deficiency keeping you from reading the lyrics and the mean.

General CommentThe world is full of people like you that need a song to supposedly open your eyes. Others people realize that music isn’t supposed to have a profound, deep meaning. Some people take music for what it is. Music: notes and words that are combined to make a melody that is pleasant to the ears. Music is for enjoyment. If you want your eyes to be truly opened, read the bible.

General Commentmaybe you havent noticed but this is songmeanings.net not a bible study group, post meanings to the songs not your religious agenda. your posts show how much your eyes need to be opened, i am sorry atdi can not reach every one because some people like you would lead a better life. oh and one more thing, if you dont like atdi, dont post on their songs! this is for user to compare the meanings they get from songs for fun, not for you to advocate your personal effete religious beliefs.

General CommentI agree Nerve, this is my personal favorite Atdi song. The sheepskin costume and the friends that laugh at and now tih you all point to Cedric explaining the fake friend. By the way, when Cedric refers to the Bel Air Colonial Deluxe No.5, he is referring to a chevrolet 1956 Bel Air model Deluxe. He also makes a referrence to the car in Schaffino so I think he actually drives this car. So I think he points out his own car to notify that it is he who wants to get away. Plus fuel is costly when you drive a V8 from 1956, so I think he is making the statement that the fuel is costly enough for friends to trade in.

General CommentThemadliteralist......music isnt just about notes and words to create melody.....its also about the deeper meaning....people put their heart and souls into writing lyrics and notes...to say that they are doing that for melody is rediculous.....maybe those shi*ty boy bands you listen to have no deeper meaning to there songs cause they dont write them....but when your writing lyrics for yourself you are trying to express yourself to the world through your music.....bands have been doing this for ages look at the beatles, rolling stones, CCR....those are just 3 examples of bands who wrote music to express themselves...and many of their songs were meant to open up peoples eyes....I believe ATDI is no different...they are trying to express themselves and maybe try to open up peoples eyes
