"Thompson Girl" as written by R. D. Burman and Javed Akhtar....
Thompson Girl, I'm stranded at the Unique Motel
Thompson Girl winterfighter's shot on the car as well
Looks like Christmas at 55 degrees
This latitude weakens my knees, Thompson Girl

Grunt work somewhere between dream and duty
Poking through with all them shoots of beauty

Thompson Girl walking from Churchill
Across the icy world with polar bears it's mostly uphill
But when she saw that nickel stack
She whistled hard and I whistled back, Thompson Girl

Grunt work time between dream state and duty
Poking through with all them shoots of beauty
Grunt work somewhere between dreams and duty
Poking through with all them shoots of beauty

Thompson Girl we're down to the dead houseplants
Thompson Girl we've jettisoned every thing we can
She says springtime's coming
Wait til you see
It poking through with them shoots of beauty
It's the end of rent-a-movie weather
It's time to end this siege together, Thompson Girl
Thompson Girl
Thompson Girl
Thompson Girl

General Commentwhoa looks like we got a fucking genius on our hands. jilliefromchile, obviously a geographical wizard, claims that thompson girl is about ONTARIO winter? Thats cool i guess, cause its not like Thompson and Churchill (Thompson Girl walking from Churchill ) are both in Manitoba. my hat goes off to you.

General CommentStrangely, I am from a town with the same moniker in the state straight south of where the inspiration for this song comes from. Even further, I am willing to bet that years back, somebody from Thompson, MB was driving south toward Fargo or the Twin Cities looking for great deals and they saw the sign for my hometown and that somebody said, "Hey, what a co-inky-dink."

The tangled webs the world weaves for us.

General Commentthank you Idioteque, for calling jillie on that shockingly embarrassing post.
Also of note, the previous post, by skunk, actually says that Thompson is in Manitoba. Just further highlight of this brilliant display of incompetence.

My OpinionI find it funny that you are all trying to find one single meaning for this song, Thompson Girl. Yes, it is about a girl from Thompson. We can assume it is Thompson, Manitoba, with the reference to Churchill, Manitoba. Not to mention Gord Downie's affinity for Canadian culture. I find Hipfan's comment most enlightening because I have not heard of this movie.

But, it is of course about the narrator's love encounter with a girl from Thompson. She whistled hard and I whistled back meaning they were crushing on eachother. Seems like nothing becomes of it, other than the whistling and towards the end of it the narrator says its time to stop playing games, "it's time to end this siege together".

Great tune. Been listening to it non stop for a while now.

General CommentThe latitude of Thompson, Manitoba is 55.7500° N, so since the song mentions the latitude being 55° it is safe to say that it is about Thompson, MB.

General CommentPhil Sirois There is something behind Thompson girl. Some years ago I mentioned Thompson girl to my father and he was so surprised that I knew of Thompson girl. He asked "How do you know of Thompson girl?" He kept saying I don't believe you know of Thompson girl. May my Dad R.I.P. It must be something back in the 50's or so, I guess I'll look it up.

Song Fact"But when she saw that nickel stack"

Thompson Manitoba's main employer is a nickel mine and as you enter the community the tall nickel stack is to your left. The girl in question dated the drummer for a period of time.
