"Pretty Polly" as written by Crispin John Orion Gray and Katrina Jane Garside....
Polly, pretty Polly, come, go away with me,
Polly, pretty polly, come, go away with me,
Before we get married some pleasures to see.

She jumped up beside him and away they did go,
She jumped up beside him and away they did go,
Over the mountains and the valleys below.

Billy, oh Billy, I'm afraid for my life,
Billy, oh Billy, I'm afraid for my life,
I'm afraid you mean to murder me and leave me behind.

Polly, pretty Polly, you're guessing about right,
Polly, pretty Polly, you're guessing about right,
I've been digging your grave for the best part of your life.

He stabbed her through the heart and her hot blood did flow,
He stabbed her through the heart and her hot blood did flow,
And into the grave pretty Polly did go.

He threw a little dirt over her and started for home,
He threw a little dirt over her and started for home,
Leaving nobody there but the wild birds to moan.

A debt to the devil Billy must pay,
A debt to the devil Billy must pay,
For killing pretty Polly and running away.

General CommentThis is such a sinister song - Katie's voice is talking about such a terrible act and all the time her voice is so delicate and beautiful. Billy's a 'king bastard.

General CommentI think it was based on a fairy tale at some point. but slightly twisted around. I think it was about a boy who took a girl to the woods and lost her but it has changed a little since then i suppose.

General CommentThis is a fairytale lyrics, obviously Katie Jane's beautiful voice made this better and it is an amazing song.. I love this band! I feel it could be about feminist power and how you have expectations of someone..even though she knows Billy is going to murder her she still follows him and is loyal because she feels he is worth it. If you follow your heart you get pleasure but you also get pain.

    General CommentKatie Jane is *divine*.
I see this as a sad song about the death of a relationship.
'Billy' takes along a girl for a ride with the promise of commitment. She realises that he's not all sweet dreams and sunsets, and she's in too deep to let go unhurt. He betrays her and cataclysmically breaks her heart, justifies himself for closure and goes away like nothing happened ('threw a little dirt over her and started for home'). But breaking a heart deliberately (Polly's murder) is one of the worst pains, and so Billy owes a debt to the Devil.

    What an amazing voice/song.
