I have experimented with acid twice and both times I have found my self listening to the album loveless incessantly. To say the least it literally felt as though cum was dripping out of my ears while listening to this song in particular. Anyway, after such a fantastic time I felt obligated to investigate the lyrical content of MBV, in addition to throwing in my own interpretation of it as necessary.

This song is sung from the perspective of someone hoping to hook the candy of their eye. The lyrics suggest that they would like to dive into the relationship and hold on. For some reason, perhaps from observing other relationships and previous experiences, they are certain that their desired relationship, once kindled, will be incredibly sweet for a time, long enough at least for the bond to solidify, but inevitably will become insipid.

"Midnight wish blow me a kiss" Why is this opening line so mesmerizing to me?

Bilinda Butcher wrote the lyrics to this one. But I do agree that Kevin Shields is quick to say how lyrics are not so important to him, but I think a lot of us know better.

A lot of MBV's songs seem to evolve around illusion/deception, dreams and sex.

im in love with all of mbv's song, and this is a personal fav. With MBV, there's really not much to interpret. As soon as someone creates the MusicMeanings website, then we can dissect MBV. Kevin Shields himself said the lyrics don't mean that much in his songs (though I do think they are highly personal).

This is my favorite MBV song. They're the only ones who could pull off something like this.

As far as lyrics go, most of their songs seem to be directed at some object of affection/obsession, intertwined with the elements that ooohmissy mentioned. I think the singer in this song is borderline insane for the one they are after. It's just tearing them apart

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
