Burnin' alive, Set my soul on fire
Runnin' with a gun, This place is gonna burn
No firewater, Or novocaine
No thunderstorm, No John Wayne
No kids to rock, Nowhere to run
So watch out, 'Cause this place is gonna burn

Burnin' alive, Burnin' alive

They be smokin' your hide, Come runnin' wild
Tell you nothin' to fear, Cause the buck stops here!
He came from a little town called hope
And someday maybe, It'll go up in smoke

No firewater, Or novocaine
No thunderstorm, No John Wayne
No kids to rock, Nowhere to run
So watch out, 'Cause this place is gonna burn

Burnin' alive, Burnin' alive
Burnin' alive, Burnin' alive

Its an all out war, An all out war
Burnin' alive, Burnin' alive

Somewhere, Theres a little town called hope
And someday maybe baby, He'll inhale that smoke!

Burnin' alive, Burnin' alive

Its an all out war, An all out war
Hear the battle roar, It's an all out war
Burnin' alive, Burnin' alive

Watch the place burn down

General Commenti love this song. its probably their best "slow"song. i think its about how hes given up hope with something (relationship?)hence, a little town called hope up in smoke, and now its (or shes?) constantly on his mind, and hes burning alive trying to cope with it. cant belive im only the third person to comment on this song.

General CommentThis song I believe is about the incident in Waco, Texas when the fire killing 70+ people when Bill Clinton was in charge. Clinton came from a town called Hope! I believe the government was the cause of the fire even though the FBI claims otherwise.

General CommentAnybody heard of Centralia, PA? It's had a coal fire burning underneath for the last 50 years, and has been largely evacuated and demolished. It inspired the movie 'Silent Hill', as well as countless other artistic productions. That's what I make of this song. I'm not saying that it was definitely inspired by the town, but it certainly is appropriate.

"He came from a little town called hope
And someday maybe, It'll go up in smoke"

Centralia was a small town, population went from 2000, to 1000, to 11.

General CommentBuilding off of the thoughts of zrmotoracer, I think there are enough correlations between this song, released in 1995, and the Clinton Administration's Waco Massacre of the Spring of 1993.

One that he didn't mention is that Bill Clinton famously asserted that while he had smoked marijuana, he didn't inhale the smoke.

As the Branch Davidians (i.e. the folks massacred at Waco) were a Seventh Day Adventist sect, they eschewed alcoholic beverages, commonly called "firewater" and painkillers (e.g. "novocaine") which this song squarely puts outside the ambit of some group or place it refers to. This detail makes it strongly likely that this whole song is about or at least referential to the Clinton Administration and its Waco massacre.
