"Easier" as written by and Glen Phillips....
I was 18 and so were you
I was that birkenstock geek rock dude
You were the back flip, doe-eyed,
Tree-climbing, earth-mama, beautiful evergreen girl

And I never thought that I could be
Gettin' my grey hair with you beside me
And there's something I'm blind to but you still see

And it couldn't be better, I know
It shouldn't be easier to hold
I should stop waiting for the other boot to fall

I wanna be the toy in your cereal box
I wanna be Charter in your peace talks
I wanna get almost too familiar
But still notice the way that you walk

If you said you were going away
I'd run on the tarmac
And I would lay down in front of the plane
Just to get you to stay

'cause it couldn't be better, I know
It shouldn't be easier to hold
I should stop waiting for the other boot to fall

Got everything I'd ever wanted here
Everything, then this constant fear
I'm sure I'm gonna lose it all
Just waiting for the other boot to fall

If you thought I could be replaced
I wouldn't just stop w/ an ear
I would cut off my whole fuckin' face
Just to make my point clear

That it couldn't be better, I know
It shouldn't be easier to hold
I should stop waiting for the other boot to fall
I'm waiting for the other boot to fall

General CommentGlen Phillips is so hot. Cannot lie. i.e. THIS SONG.

I want a guy who can say things like Birkenstock, geek-rock dude and who is a guy like that.

I can't wait until I get to feel this way when I get married.

His lyrics amaze me with each listen. Can't get enough...

General CommentWhen singing "Easier" live, Glen often replaces the first verse with this one:

I was eighteen, so were you
I was that Birkenstock, geek-rock dude
    You were the back-flipped, doe-eyed tree-climbin' Earth-mama
    Beautiful evergreen girl

General CommentThis is such a great song, and probably needs no explanation.

I don't know much about Glen's personal life, but it sounds like it's about his relationship with his wife - he feels undeserving and in some way inferior, and those feelings are going to inveitably lead to losing everything, though he wants nothing more than to cling to it.

General CommentI personally think the lines:

"And if you said you were going away
I would run on the tarmac
And I would lay down in front of the plane
Just to get you to stay"

are the best.. such a good song.

General CommentI can really relate to this song as I can to most of Glen's songs. It's finding the relationship you wanted for your whole life and thinking it will fall apart at any time.

General CommentThe CD recording of this does feature the beginniing verse of
"I was eighteen, so were you
I was that Birkenstock, geek-rock dude
    You were the back-flipped, doe-eyed tree-climbin' Earth-mama
    Beautiful evergreen girl "
I have never heard it sang any other way, and I've heard it performed 4 times now.

How is this not the best line in a song ever. I want to know you so well that im on the brink of being bored with you but I still want to notice every little thing about you a Love you for it. Even if its something as simple as the way you walk or twirl your hair or say I love you.
