"Stare Too Long" as written by and Keenan/weatherman/mullin/dean....
Oh lord I must be crazy, Settled down and I find nothing new

Older days, they used to matter but I don't care
Cause I got nothin' to lose

And if I stare too long, I might not see you right
Over time, the heart goes out of sight
And if I stare too long, I might not see you right
Close the door. Where the heart is out of sight

Many a dreams across the river
But it's too strong for a boy like me, yeah

Now you're gone but I still remember
Better days as they wash into the sea

And if I stare too long, I might not see you right
Over time, the heart goes out of sight
And if I stare too long, I might not see you right
Close the door. Where the heart is out of sight

I've got the time but I got no reason
I'm broken down, waiting patiently
Now the sun don't shine for me and that's a different season
but she comes around one more time for me

And if I stare too long, I think I might go blind
Over time the heart goes out of sight
And if I live too long, I might not treat you right
Close the door, now you're shining way too bright
Shine on

General CommentExtremely underrated song. Pepper's voice gives the song instant credibility, and I love Woody's solo. It sounds as though they've channeled Skynard on this one. Great tune.

General CommentBeautiful song; very underrated. From what I can tell, it's about how things come and go so quickly, and how even the sweetest things can sour over time.

General CommentYou all are right. Underrated. But not only the song, it's the band that's highly underrated. Period. I have all their CD's and I think they're worth their weight in gold. Amazing Band. Amazing CD's. The Guitars alone in this song can bring you to tears, then you have the beautiful lyrics. My favorite part of the song and perhaps any song is "I've got the time, but I've got no reason..I'm broken done and waitin' patiently". I love that. But to say what the meaning of this song is, it's hard to tell. He's getting older and realizing it then settles down and tries to find love or maybe a love that he once had and he can't get her off of his mind so he goes after her. "Might not treat you right" could mean that he had her once before and didn't treat her right so he may think that he'll do it again...? That's my "brilliant" deduction. =P

General CommentA lot of you are mentioning the guitars...for those that don't know, Warren Haynes (Gov't Mule, Allman Brothers) played slide guitar on this track. His guitar, along with many other things, makes this song incredible

General CommentIt sounds really southern, I love the song...Pepper said in an interview that he wrote this song for a close friend that had an accident and he is unable to move anymore, or sth like this

General Commentnothing lasts forever, and we all mean well in life, but for whatever reason being clumsy,or foot-in-mouth,we tend to fuck it up over time, simple people sometimes dont take the risks in life and always regret it ,classic tune,Warrens slide guitar is slick,Peppers voice is from another world, yet all to familiar as always

General CommentRemarkable song from these guys. LUV it. Does it really mean don't fritter away life? What I'm getting is overindulgences in something or somebody can take the beauty away from it.
