"A Promise" as written by and Ian Stephen/sergeant Mcculloch....
You said something will change
We were all dressed up
Somewhere to go
No sign of rain
But something will change
You promised

You said nothing will change
We were almost near
Almost far
Down came the rain
But nothing will change
You promised

A promise a promise a promise

It's exactly the same
You said
It's always the same
But I'll make it change
Into something the same
I promise

A promise a promise a promise

Light on the waves
Light on the waves
Light on the waves
Light on the waves
A promise a promise a promise a promise
(Light on the water)
(We could sail on forever) a promise
A promise
(There's light on the water)
(We could sail on forever) a promise
(There's light on the water) a promise
(There's light on the water) a promise
(We could sail on forever) a promise
(There's Light on the water) a promise
(There's Light on the water) a promise
(We could sail on forever)

General CommentHe knows what it is to be stood up. They had plans for a night or for a life ... 'you promised.' but something will change just the way it always does. What luck

General CommentGreat song. First time I heard it, it reminded me of Joy Division.

General CommentThis song has very bad memories. Trusting/let down kind of stuff. Abandonment. Changing one's mind.

General CommentWhat a great band! Based on the lack of posts on this and all of their songs, they've been somewhat forgotten or overlooked.

My Interpretationthis song seems if this person's heart has been lied to a lot of times. maybe his lover isn't showing too much recognition, and promises being broken constantly. he's had enough of her games and her secrets. he wants the truth.
