Used to be a sweet boy
Holding so tightly
To Daddy's hand
But that was all
In some distant land
Blazer and tie
And a big bright healthy smile
Used to make all
Of our trials worthwhile
Used to be a sweet boy
And I'm not to blame
But something went wrong
Something went wrong
And I know
I'm not to blame
Something went wrong
Can't be to blame
Ah
Holding so tightly
To Daddy's hand
But that was all
In some distant land
Blazer and tie
And a big bright healthy smile
Used to make all
Of our trials worthwhile
Used to be a sweet boy
And I'm not to blame
But something went wrong
Something went wrong
And I know
I'm not to blame
Something went wrong
Can't be to blame
Ah

This is a hidden gem on Vauxhall and I. A beautiful tune. Is this song about Morrissey himself... As a parent whose children have gone a stray in life this song will mean a lot. The early pride in your son - his promise, an d then it all to go wrong... is it his or your fault. powerful.
This song has become doubly meaningful to me because when I first heard it I was a wayward son. Now I am listening as a father whose son has gone astray. I often contemplate what went wrong, and to what extent I am to blame.
