It's nothing, it's so normal
You just stand there I could say so much
But I don't go there cuz I don't want to
I was thinking if you were lonely
Maybe we could leave here and no one would know
At least not to the point that we would think so

Everyone here, knows everyone here is thinking about
Somebody else
It's best if we all keep it under our heads
I couldn't tell, if anyone here was feeling the way I do
But I'm lonely now, and I don't know how
To get it back to good

This don't mean that, you own me
This ain't no good, in fact it's phony as hell
But things worked out just like you wanted too
If you see me out you don't know me
Try to turn your head, try to give me some room
To figure out just what I'm going to do

And everyone here, hates everyone here for doing
Just like they do
It's best if we all keep this quiet instead
And I couldn't tell, why everyone here was doing me like
They do
But I'm sorry now, and I don't know how
To get it back to good

Everyone here, is wondering what it's like to be with
Somebody else
Everyone here's to blame, everyone here
Gets caught up in the pleasure of the pain, everyone hides
Shades of shame, but looking inside we're the same
We're the same
And we're all grown now, but we don't know how
To get it back to good

Everyone here, knows everyone here is thinking 'bout
Somebody else
It's best if we all keep this under our heads
I couldn't tell, if anyone here was feeling the way I do
But it's over now, and I don't know how, it's over now
There's no getting back to good

I think that looking at this video and reading the lyrics, he is singing about his own and most peoples dealings with seeking pleasure and debotchery for gratification. The gratification is fleeting and he is always drawn back to thinking about his signifigant other who gave him real love and pleasure instead of the hollow pleasure and joy he gets from partying and free sex. In the video it shows a sort of Brazilian Carnival atmosphere where women are scantily clad and dancing with masks on and men are doing the same. There are also symbols shown. The cross is shown on a mans necklace who is there seeking some form of pleasure, probably perverted. This seems to indicate a conflict that most of us moral beings have and deal within us. We can seem so happy while having fun and being popular but when the fun and popularity ends, we struggle with getting our lives back on track, Back To Good. The video shows the goats head which is sybolic of satanism and the satanic acts that take place when people do evil tricks. In the end the song deals with our struggle and inner conflict between good and bad. Being back to good means the solid and consistant love we feel with our signifigant others or families, but we take that for granted due to its consistancy. The grass is always greener type of thing. Its a struggle to get back to good when you have betrayed yourself and your sense of morality. This is why this song is so deep, because its not only necessarily about sexual fun and pleasure but can be construed by somebody like a soldier of war who is feeling similar thoughts. Its because we all know what is right in our own minds but we are lured by the world and the things in it to seek things that give us added meaning and pleasure, (feeding our ego) but these things rarely fulfill our need for love and thats what the good is. Humans have brains and emotions unlike any other being on the planet and our intellect often leads us astray from what we already have, which he sings about in the song regarding his girlfriend getting what she wanted. Now he is lost just like her, out in the maze and muck of lost souls. The soldier feels the same because it is not his true calling in life to have someone else tell him to go kill but it gives him meaning and a purpose. Deep inside his brain he knows that he is a child of God and not sent on this earth to kill for other human beings. But thats what we are told by popular people with something to gain. What did the soldier gain? He gained a lifelong struggle of getting his life and thoughts back to purity (GOOD).
Its very deep and beautiful, this song. My heart aches for all of us in this predicament. Turn to GOD!

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
