"Floating" as written by and Ray Thomas....
Floating free as a bird
Sixty foot leaps it's so absurd
From up here you should see the view
Such a lot of space for me and you

Oh you'd like it
Gliding around get your feet off the ground
Oh you'd like it
Do as you please with so much ease

Now I know how it feels
To have wings on my heels
To take a stroll among the stars
Get a close look at planet Mars

Oh you'd like it
Gliding around get your feet off the ground
Oh you'd like it
Do as you please with so much ease

Bouncing about on the moon
Guess you'll all be up here soon
The candy stores they'll be brand new
And you'll buy a rock with the moon right through

Oh you'd like it
Gliding around get your feet off the ground
Oh you'd like it
Do as you please with so much ease

Come fly...
Come fly...
Come fly...

General CommentObviously this song is about being on the moon. But I think it's seen from the perspective of a child and how they would view being on the moon (jumping around, rock candy, all fun). Incidently the song that preceeds this one on To Our Childrens Childrens Children is The Eyes of a Child (With the eyes of a child you must come out and see...).

General CommentI agree with Digi-G, especially since the entire To Our Childrens Childrens Children album was inspired by the Apollo landing on the moon in 1969. HOWEVER I also believe many of the songs, including this one, have double meaning. This was, after all, the heyday of the counterculture and the Moodies were actually considered a very experimental and psychedelic group back then!! (I remember, I was there.) The Moodies were in the same league as the early Pink Floyd for us old-fart hippies. There is little question that they experimented with hallucinogens (after all, Mike Pinder wrote two songs about Timothy Leary!). So "floating free as a bird" and most of the other lyrics can also refer to getting stoned.
