I don't know where I'm coming from no more
I'm just searching for a pair of closed doors
All too often on the kitchen floor
Dreading what life's got in store
Confined inside my peace of mind
I'm just terrified that I'm one tick from out of time
I'm one syllable away from my final rhyme
I always Used to contemplate suicide
Still happens from time to time
Despite the fact I'll be alright
Treat myself better than I ever could
Treat myself better than you ever would
Friends of mine have died when I thought I should
So I'll make my life the best like I know they would
Hitting rock bottom is harder than falling in love and then breaking your heart
I'd never turn back and hit that restart, watching myself would fracture my heart
Little boy Davidson dragged through the park, kicking and screaming
That shit leaves me scarred
I can't imagine what I don't remember
I don't remember cause I made it through
You gotta do what you gotta do
So sorry if I forget you
I'm so sorry if
If I I've forgotten your story
I've been erasing the pain
That means my hurt just won't go away
I'm so sorry
If I've forgotten your story
I've been erasing the pain
That means my hurt won't go away
It's not avoidance
It's perseverance
I'm not the only one
Who really feels this
Lately I'm Trapped by anxiety
Pick up a habit I have a variety
Got to go study for test of sobriety
That's just a story I'd keep in a diary
Never quite had one I just had my raps
My poems and my laps
And just like a pencil I'd easily snap.
Peel back the layers of Trauma and hurt
Add a fresh coat of not knowing your worth
Must be a reason our mothers gave birth
Deep down inside I'm the salt of the earth
Let me re word
Let me rewind
Reflect on a tape that's all mangled inside
The cheap piece of plastic
You keep in your attic
Store is shut down, no fees for returns
You think you will change without putting in work
Call me these names cause you think I'm a jerk
When I was a child bet I heard it way worse
You always think you should come first
So tell me again why your story is cursed
No longer will I give the shirt off my back
To anyone that would not do it right back
Thats back to back
And I'm not about that
No silver platter with my back for stabbing
My faded past more like forgotten
I hated them but It's not my problem
If I buried the hatchet
Left it in a coffin
I hoarded emotions
But now they're all rotten
I tried to move on
But I think that I caught on
That some of these things
Are best off forgotten
I'm so sorry if
If I I've forgotten your story
I've been erasing the pain
That means my hurt just won't go away
I'm so sorry
If I've forgotten your story
I've been erasing the pain
That means my hurt won't go away

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
