"(I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone" as written by Stephen Grimes, Peter Hooton, Carl James Hunter, Keith Roger Mullin, Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart....
I-I-I-I-I'm not your steppin' stone,
I-I-I-I-I'm not your steppin' stone.

You're trying to make your mark in society,
You're using all the tricks that you used on me,
You're reading all them high-fashion magazines,
The clothes you're wearing, girl, they're causing public scenes.

I said, I-I-I-I-I'm not your steppin' stone,
I-I-I-I-I'm not your steppin' stone. (No!)

Not your steppin' stone,
Not your steppin' stone,

When I first met you, girl, you didn't have no shoes,
But, now you're walking around like you're front page news,
You've been awful careful 'bout the friends you choose,
But, you won't find my name in your book of "Who's Who".

I said, I-I-I-I-I'm not your steppin' stone, (No, girl, not me!)
I-I-I-I-I'm not your steppin' stone. (No!)

Not your steppin' stone,
I'm not your steppin' stone,

Not your steppin' stone,
Not your steppin' stone,
Not your steppin' stone,
Not your steppin' stone,

No, girl, I'm not your steppin' stone,
Not your steppin' stone,
Not your steppin' stone,
Not your steppin' stone,

After hearing the Sex Pistols perform it, who needs another version?

General CommentIt's the same lyrics, exactly and the Monkees version, but it's much harder. The Monkees were light, happy, cheesy rock. So of course the Sex Pistols are going to scream it.

I didn't know Neil Diamond wrote this... The Monkees never wrote their own songs anyways.

General CommentNo... Neil Diamond did not write this. Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart did.

I heard something great on a garage rock radio the other day. The Sex Pistols Covering the Monkees... Both bands were made to sell records, the Monkees were the only ones to admit they were. The Sex Pistols were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Monkees have still not. Huh.....
