"Stagefright" as written by Robert John Lange, Joseph Elliott and Richard Savage....
I said welcome to the show
It's just a-you and me baby
We got the whole damn night to go

You're holding out on me, while I'm on fire
If you can't stand the heat, then you should try
Victim of my vices, you know you are
You skate on ice to paradise, stairway to the stars

Stagefright all night, won't you let go
All night stagefright, get on with the show

You come on like a lady dressed to kill
Never thought you could be caught, but you will
A little understanding, a little love
A headline act around the back, is what I'm thinkin' of

Stagefright all night, won't you let go
All night stagefright, get on with the show
Stagefright all night, you're dream starts today
All night stagefright, is only a heartbeat away

You're going for my head, you're going down
Gettin' good at being bad, you're hangin' round
A fun inspired asylum, toys for the boys
Love on the rocks, forget-me-nots, you got no choice

Stagefright all night, oh won't you let go
All night stagefright, get on with the show
Stagefright all night, you're dream starts today
All night stagefright, is only a heartbeat away

Stagefright all night, oh won't you let go
All night stagefright, get on with the show

General CommentI don't know what it is about this song, but I love it! It's got incredibly energy and I believe is taped at a live show during Leppard's early days! This is one of those songs the Def Leppard fans know as a classic and can only be appreciated by us!

General CommentNext time you listen to this song:

Imagine standing in a huge stadium looking towards a 4 sided stage. The lights go down... and you hear this song begin. Joe starts yelling, "I said-a welcome to my shoooooow"... the crown goes nuts.

This is how they used to open their concerts back when Steve Clark was still alive. It really got the crowd going.

General CommentMy apologies for the misspelling in the previous post. A corrected version follows:

Imagine standing in a huge stadium looking towards a 4 sided stage. The lights go down... and you hear this song begin. Joe starts yelling, "I said-a welcome to my shoooooow"... the crowd goes nuts.

This is how they used to open their concerts back when Steve Clark was still alive. It really got the crowd going.

General CommentAnyone have any idea what the crowd shouts right after he says "We got the whole damn night to go"?
It's really hard to make out but I'm pretty positive they're actually saying something. I have the Pyromania studio version so its definitely meant to be in there and its not something that was added at a live show, although, maybe if people know what they were actually saying they do it at performances too.

My InterpretationThis song is pretty self explanatory. It's my favorite Def song. Most like the fluff songs like Pour some sugar on me which to me is brutal, but this was a song that the era was all about.

The first and last verse are pretty self explanatory. During a BBC interview the remaining members confirmed that this song was about picking up groupies which was the norm in the hair band days.

Great song; most hardcore Def fans love it.

Song MeaningIt's about getting groupies back stage to have sex with. At first she's reluctant. " your holding out on me when I'm on fire". Towards the end she has no problem doing anything for the boys " going for my head, you're going down (fellatio) getting good at being bad, fun inspired asylum toys for the boys...
