"The Inescapable Us" as written by and Matthew Good....
The day I met you
Decay will let you
Learn to bend
We are better butterflies
All meek we get the end

It makes me sick
It makes me laugh when I shouldn't
Kill what I came to keep alive
Your turn to spill, your turn to spill
Your turn to spill

That's fate
Looking our way
Your sparkling spot hasn't caught on
That's fate
Stealing away
Your sparkling spot hasn't caught on
Hasn't caught on

The day we met up
It's hard to get up
And live it down
We are smaller maybe
Than what we can't get around

It makes me sick
It makes me laugh when I look at you
Clap while it's kicking us around
And what it spills, and what it spills
And what it spills is

Fate
Looking our way
Your sparkling spot hasn't caught on
That's fate
Stealing away
Your sparkling sopt hasn't caught on
Hasn't caught on

I have an interpretation of it and it ruins you. You do not want to understand it.

My InterpretationThis song is truly haunting as well as beautiful. It is clearly about how a relationship...even one that turns out to be a bad one ...can be the basis of what one judges and evaluates everything else in life. The line "the day we met up, it's hard to get up, and live it down" speaks about how much it can scar a life when someone out and out betrays another whom they supposedly love. It also asks the question "is everyone replaceable?". Another great line is "It makes me sick,
It makes me laugh when I shouldn't....Kill what I came to keep alive". I think here Matthew is talking about how even though you know it's in your best interest to leave it in the past...you just can't...and you guess you may never be able to.

There is a great video floating around on Youtube with the use of imagery that evokes the thought of how all relationships evolve (we are better butterflies - all meek we get the end) and end up being something totally different than what it started out as .

    Fantastic song

General CommentThis song is absolutely the most beautiful song Matt Good has ever written. I am completely obsessed with it. It reminds me of the last year of my life and what an impact this song has had on it. "Tats fate, stealing away your sparkling spot"....so amazing.

My InterpretationThis song is about a relationship that fades. About two lovers that are loosing there passion towards each other. They're sick of hiding the fact that there's no more chemistry and it getting worse and worse.
