"Rico" as written by Matthew Good, Geoff Lloyd, Ian Browne and Dave Genn....
Rico was a short man
Wants to live with a long-haired girl
In Cose Meda
And rip-off fruit stands
During the getaways she will drive the Vespa

He's gonna buy a parrot
That speaks her language
But all it'll say is what are you doing with him
Let's take off, take off, take off, take off

Everyone's gotta be something
Me I'm garbage
It's all I ever wanted to be
Shock me again and I'll say
Anything you want me to..
Anything you want

Let it play out
Buy the rights to endless love
If your friends don't like it
You can tell them from me
To fuck off, fuck of, fuck off, fuck off

Everyone's gotta be something
Me I'm stupid
It's all I ever wanted to be
Shock me again and I'll say
Anything you want me to..
Anything you want

Everyone's gotta be something
Me I'm loaded
It's all I ever wanted to be
Shock me again and I'll stay
I'll stay

General CommentI think this song is basically as it sounds. Its just a story about this lowlife-type of dude, Rico, and the sort of situations he constantly puts himself into, and how people are always judging him, while they can't see how much he enjoys what he's doing. At the same time it tells of how he's used to being at such a low point in his life, and that he doesnt wish to go any higher, until everything comes crashing down on him, and he eventually gives up and stops. Whatever it means, its an awesome song. Defintiely one of the better ones they made before they broke up.

My InterpretationThis is a fun little song about an intelligent person looking at the life of one of these halfwit losers and wondering what it's like to be them. But also looking at the women that subject themselves to a life with such miscreants and trying to figure out why they hang around, sleep with and otherwise let themselves be used by them when they can do much better.

It's not a direct attack, it's much more tactful which is the true genius of the lyric. Matthew is putting himself into the role of Rico so that as Rico he can blatantly call attention to his own character flaws without appearing vindictive or mean spirited against the other Ricos of the world.

Not only that but it appeals to the Rico-like losers everyone grew up with, because they aren't conscientious enough to understand that the song isn't celebrating their lifestyle, but cleverly making a hilarious mockery of it. It's the ultimate insiders joke that goes over the heads of the very people it's poking fun at. And yet there is no real proof that it's not just harmless fun at someone's expense.
