Stagger Lee met Billy and they go down to gambling

Stagger Lee throwed seven
Billy said that he throwed eight
So Billy said, hey Stagger! I'm gonna make my big attack
I'm gonna have to leave my knife in your back

Why do you try to cheat?
And trample people under your feet
Don't you know it is wrong?
To cheat the trying man
So you better stop, it is the wrong 'em boyo

You lie, steal, cheat and deceit
In such a small, small game
Don't you know it is wrong

Billy Boy has been shot
And Stagger Lee's come out on top
Don't you know it is wrong
To cheat the trying man
To cheat Stagger man
You'd better stop
So you must start all over again-all over again
You got to play it, Billy, play, you got to play it, Billy, play
And you will find it is the right 'em boyo

But if you must lie and deceit
And trample people under your feet
Don't you know it is wrong
It is the wrong 'em boyo

General CommentThis is actually a cover of "Wrong Embryo" by the Rulers. The Clash changed the lyrics a bit though, and cranked up the tempo. man, ska is great, isn't it?
    Unity.

General CommentStagger Lee is a famous 'legend' retold in lots of blues and jazz songs. Each artist has their own take on the story. For example Nick Cave has a dark song called 'Stagger Lee' where Stagger goes to a pub, shoots a barman, leaves with a woman, and then shoots her husband who happens to be this 'Bill' guy.

I don't know all the small details, but apparently it's roughly based on a true story. Look it up. It's quite interesting.

General CommentTale of two guys named Stagger Lee and Billy who were gambling. Stagger Lee threw seven, but Billy said he threw eight (what card game is this?). They fight, and Billy gets killed by Stagger, proving that it is wrong to cheat Stagger Lee.

General CommentTo add to what skacore_dude said, if you go to the lyrics section of the Nick Cave song "Stagger Lee", someone posted a link to the full story of it.

General CommentYeah, Stagger Lee is a real classic, a bit like Delia. I love playing this song on my accordion. the Stagger Lee version by Dr. John is terrific, too. And yeah, its dice, 'cause I don't reckon you can 'throw' cards.
