"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
outside my window
everything is dark
I'm sitting in my room
it's darker than the night
the walls are coming closer
try to reach my skin
they want to break my bones
but I don't care
at all
everything is looking down
everything is looking down
Tränen in den Augen
Reflektionen I'm Kerzenlicht
In der Dunkelheit
Fühle ich dich nicht
Blicke voller Sehnsucht
Sie suchen dich
Doch sie sind vergebens
do siehst mich nicht
outside my window
everything is dark
I'm sitting in my room
it's darker than the night
the walls are coming closer
try to reach my skin
they want to break my bones
but I don't care
at all
everything is looking down
emptyness in my soul
a black hole
where once there was my heart
one fine day
someone took you away from me
it happened so suddenly
you didn't say goodbye
you are not guilty
guilty of any thing
no one can blame you
for you have done nothing
so why did they do it
I can't explain
everything is dark
I'm sitting in my room
it's darker than the night
the walls are coming closer
try to reach my skin
they want to break my bones
but I don't care
at all
everything is looking down
everything is looking down
Tränen in den Augen
Reflektionen I'm Kerzenlicht

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms.
“Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
The best part of this song is the chorus, but unfortunatly it's in german.
This is one of my favorite TC songs. it is so sad :( Though, sometimes I think Christian should stick with the German lyrics. When he writes in English, his lyrics usually run a bit of cheese factor and are fairly repetitive.
The chorus means sth like the following:
Tears in the eyes, Reflections in candlelight In the darkness I don't feel you Yearning gazes They search for you But they are in vain You don't see me
It's a beautiful song, full of emotions for the lost beloved person, although I like the guitar-driven, later songs of TC better, like Armageddon or Menschenfresser, but this doesn't fit here, as well as romantic songs don't belong to Terminal Choice in my opinion.
