"What Will You Say" as written by and Carla/buckley Azar....
It's been such a long time
And I was just a child then
What will you say
When you see my face?
Time feels like it's flown away
The days just pass and fade away
What will you say
When they take my place?

It's funny now
I just don't feel like a man
What will you say
When you see my face?
My face...

Mother dear, the world's gone cold
No one cares about love anymore
What will you say
When you see my face?

Father do you hear me?
Do you know me?
Do you even care?
What will you say
When they take my place?

My heart can't take this anymore
What will you say
When you see my face?
When you see my,
See my face...

I can feel your time crawling
To a slow end
I can feel my time crawling
To a slow end...

Mother dear, the world's gone cold
No one cares about love anymore
What will you say
When you see my face?

Father do you hear me?
Do you know me?
Did you even care?
What will you say
When you take my place?

Well it's so funny now
I just don't feel like I'm a man
What will you say?

General Commenta song about him and his relation with his father
the first time he tried to forgive his father, spiritually nevertheless
as "forget her", a true song of his heart

General Commentum, jeff actually co-wrote this song with his longtime friend chris dowd- who did have his own band whose name escapes me right now('fishbone'?). Dowd actually wrote the lyric about his own relationship with his estranged father. still, an appropriate song for buckley to sing...

General CommentThe live version from "olympia" Cd has him singing it as a duet with a Pakistani kweli singer -I like the unexpected combination. Jeff had a thing for muslem mysticism after reading Halil Jubrans' The Prophet.

General CommentI LOOOVE this song, it's just so different, it's even played in a different tuning, and the Solo is full of pain and wow, it's awesome!

General CommentYeah its an open G tuning. When Jeff plays it on his beautiful Rickenbacker, especially on the last chorus after the solo when he screams "Mother dear, the world's gone cold. Noone cares about love anymore", that has got to be one of my favourite Jeff Buckley moments. Listen to the Mystery White Boy version, it is so inspiring.

General CommentFor those of you who don't know Buckley was raised by his mother and his stepfather and met his father only once before his death in 1975 of a drugs overdose. "What will you say when you've seen my face" the words of this song speak for themselves.
