She just wept
Like I could not ignore
How can I act
When my heart's on the floor?
She just wept
'Til her eyes became sore I knew who she was
But I don't anymore
She just cried
To the ruins of time
That kept us apart
We were doing just fine
She just wept
She was put to the test
Those that she loved
She had learned to detest
Daddy I've got nothing left
My life is good
My love's a mess
Daddy I've got nothing left
What can I do that's for the best?
Daddy I've got nothing left
My life is good
My love's a mess
Daddy I've got nothing left
What can I do that's for the best?

this a beautiful song, with poignant lyrics and an awesome melody. definetly one of starsailor's best songs. with jame's beautiful voice that reaches down into the depths of the soul, it's hard not to feel like crying when i hear this.

This whole song is a conversation with his father about his girl and indeering love for her as she seems battles her way through the trenches of depression. The Daddy references at the end are him talking to his father, he is at his wits end because his "love's [his girl] is a mess." He does not think he can help, so he earnestly asks his father for the strength and wisdom to help him get through to her becaus ehe loves her and hates to see her so unbearably miserable.

My girlfriend just broke up with me after 3 and a half years. We had survived that whole time in a long distance relationship; both of us went to different universities. Every line in this song hits the mark pretty close to our situation.
"I knew who she was, but not anymore" This can easily happen in long distance relationships. "She just cried to the ruins of time that kept us apart" We sometimes went more than a month without seeing each other at all. "She was put to the test, those that she loved, she had learned to detest" I made the mistake of asking too much from her. I put her to the test by expecting her to make time for me when she was 200 miles away and had the pressures of college all around her. I think she finally couldn't take it anymore and learned to detest me. "My life is good, My love's a mess" To me this says that no matter how good your life is, when you lose the love of your life, nothing else matters much. "Daddy I've got nothing left, what can I do that's for the best?" For me, this could be a cry for help to your earthly father or a spiritual father. I want to do whatever I can to set things right. Anyway, it is very emotional and does make me cry. I love this song.

Beautiful song, simply. this one is definitley a tear jerker. To me, its about his lover being in emotional pain and he can't do anything to help her or comfort her and its making him feel depressed too, like RagingAnne suggested. Her depression is causing her to withdraw from everyone and she "learned to detest" everyone that she loved. I also think the last 2 verses are about him going to his father asking for advice and support and comfort, asking him what he can do to help her & what is best for them two. Another great song by Starsailor! James is incredible.

I've just recently started listening to Starsailor, and this is one of their best songs, in my opinion. I think the lyrics explain how someone's girlfriend went through some tragic experience and he's trying to help her but doesn't know how... "How can I act When my heart's on the floor?" He wants wants to comfort her, but her depression is making him depressed and even more depressed that he can't help (what a vicious cycle) and "Daddy" I think maybe symbolic for something else (maybe god, maybe himself, maybe actually his father, or he just needed a word to go in there, who knows?) But whoever/whatever it is, he's asking for advice so he can help his girlfriend.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
