Don't you know you've got your Daddy's eyes
And your Daddy was an alcoholic
But your mother kept it all inside
Threw it all away
I was looking for another you
And I found another one
I was looking for another you
When I looked round you were gone
Stay by my side
And the pipe dream is yours now
Stay by my side
And the singer won't get in our way
Don't you know you've got your Daddy's eyes
And your Daddy was an alcoholic
But your mother kept it all inside
Threw it all away
I was looking for another you
And I found another one
I was looking for another you
When I looked round you were gone
Stay by my side
And the pipe dream is yours now
Stay by my side
And the cynics won't get in our way
Don't you know you've got your Daddy's eyes
And your Daddy was an alcoholic
But your mother kept it all inside
Threw it all away
I was looking for another chance
To see your blue eyed problem

The lyric is "I was looking for you and I found another ONE" not you. Just thought I'd clear that up.

A great song to listen... but I didn't quite get it. What's about 'looking for another you and I found another you' part? I got to admit my imagination is quite limited but would someone plz have enough patience to explain it?

Well,dictionary.com explains a pipe dream as a fantastic notion or a faint hope, so I'm guessing that it is either the hope that the kid doesn't end up like his or her dad, or the hope that the father is just going to stop being an alcoholic. The 'looking for another you and I found another you' could mean that there are alot of children that have parents that are alcoholic, that he/she is not alone.

maybe the songs not supposed to make a lot of sense, as long as it sounds good. sometimes thats all artists care about. perhaps the pipe dream thing is about feeling stuck in a narrow gauge and not being able to move up, down, left or right, only round in one excruciating circle, not getting anywhere, and her dream is about one day breaking those boundaries and being able to fly free! just a suggestion.

Sound especially great live. I think the pipe dream bit means like ambition and hope the narrator has for this child, and that if the child goes the same way as the father, there'll be nothing for him/her.

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
