You are:
Eighteen year-old girl
Who live in small city of Japan
And you heard me on the radio
About one year ago
And you wanted to know
All about me
And my hobbies
My favorite food
And my birthday

Why are you so far away from me?
I need help
And you're way across the sea
I could never touch you
I think it would be wrong
I've got your letter
You've got my song

They don't make stationery like this where I'm from
So fragile, so refined
So I sniff and I lick your envelope
And fall to little pieces
Every time I wonder:
What clothes you wear to school
I wonder how you decorate your room
I wonder how you touch yourself
And curse myself for being across the sea

At 10, I shaved my head
And tried to be a monk
I thought the older women would like me if I did
You see, ma
I'm a good little boy
It's all your fault, momma
It's all your fault!

Goddamn, this business is really lame
I gotta live on an island to find the juice
So you send me your love from all around the world
As if I could live on
Words and dreams and a million screams
Oh, how I need a hand in mine to feel...

General CommentRivers said the song was about masturbating to the girl's picture. When the song gets really slow, and he talks about shaving his head and trying to be a monk and assuring his mom he's a good little boy, it reflects the guilt he feels after committing the act.

That part makes the song a lot more telling. Like, maybe he's this lonely, awkward guy who can't get a girlfriend in real life even though he's got teenagers in Japan writing him fan letters. Or maybe he just really gets off on how absurd and ridiculous and disgusting it is to fawn over a random Japanese fan who sends him a picture.

General CommentPinkerton didn't do well because it wasn't as commercial. It's darker, and deals with some intensely creepy awkwardness, which is why it has such a cult following.

Anyway, it's about him getting some broken english letter from a Japanese fan. He becomes emotionally attached to her even though he's never met her, imagines her masturbating, sniffs at her envelope, etc, and ends up writing this song about her.

Weezer really took off after the blue album, and in the song he attaches himself to the fan because he's longing for something more.

"As if I could live off words and dreams and a million screams, oh, how I need a hand in mine to feel. Why are you so far away from me?"

General CommentThis song actually isn't metaphorical at all, he really did recieve a letter from a fan from japan who really liked him after hearing a song off the blue album. And he really did obsess over her for quite some time. It's straightforward. That is true.

it's rumored that in college he ran into this girl (she came over for school) and she didn't recognize him but he knew who she was, and he was too freaked out to introduce himself. I don't know that i beleive that. but I've heard several people say it.

General Commentno, "i gotta live on an island to find the JUICE" is right. pinkerton is a great cd. oh yah. it's a shame rivers wont play much of anything off it. so basically, this song has to do w/ his fascination of japanese women. some of his fans are japanese, and so he gets fan mail from them...

General CommentYou are very right Glrius. Pinkerton is the best Weezer cd. Depressed people sure do write good music. And, Stabone4 is right by saying, "Now we have to brace ourselves for more pop songs." Because The Green CD is full of stupid and horrible pop songs. Why won't Rivers play off Pinkerton anymore??? It boggles the mind. Hopefully they are not trying to embrace the world of pop music. If they do, their music will only get worse and worse.
