"Poems" as written by Terry Hall and Adrian Nicholas Matthew Thaws....
I can vibe to anything, do I have to hide from everything?
Everybody wants a piece of me, reach their origin and cease to be
Sit back and let it happen, let us take your time away
I don't understand you, I don't want your time of day
If you're gonna walk, might as well walk your way
Always walk the hallways, forget the punk, I pack the funk
I'm gonna take a piece of you
Making money for good health

But first I learn to see myself
But first I learn to see myself
You promised me poems
You promised me poems
You promised me poems

I ruse the day that I ever met you
And deeply regret you getting close to me
I cannot wait to deeply neglect you
Deeply forget you, Jesus, believe me
You might have been my reason for livin'
I gave up on givin', gave up everything
We were a right pair of believers
A couple of dreamers

So how come you hate me?
You promised me poems
You promised me poems
You promised me poems
Promised me poems

Dreamed of ringing voices
And contemplated choices
Taste like a real kiss
To heighten my awareness
With all fairness, greatness with gratitude
And simply riled with attitude
Now do promotion on TV and youstill can't see
We're down the hill cascade
And keep away the masquerade

Dreamed of ringing voices
And you promised me poems
You promised me poems
You promised me poems
You promised me poems

General Commentthis is a really thoughful song. I love the progression of the slow beat to the next voice. it's really cool how there's 3 different people on it.

General CommentAll three parts are about different stuff though. Tricky goes off and brags about his popularity, while Terry talks about a failed relationship, and Martina sings about not wanting to be fake, i think

General CommentYes, I agree. Not mostly about broken dreams, but broken promises. This whole album is deeply connected to religion. There are three personas here, as there are three voices; Tricky sings as if he were Jesus himself, blaming on everyone for he has failed. Then, Terry is one of his followers, who feels abandoned and dismissed. Martina might be Mary, or Mary Magdalene.

But I believe God was the one who promised poems, not Jesus. And God failed on everyone of them. Three voices, three Graces, triad, threesome, tribal, treasure.

    Poems.

General CommentI also love Terry's part most of all. Only, I quess, it starts like: "I rue the day...", not "I ruse..."
