"Kid Things" as written by Ben Mize, Matthew Malley, Daniel John Vickrey, David Bryson, Adam Duritz and Charles Gillingham....
What's there that makes you want to be lonely?
What's there to keep you sitting at home?
He'd always say no, no, no
As if he wanted you to be hungry

Well, the same things you're missing
Could get you into something else
Better leave when to stay
Is only nothing but being alone

What I wanted you to know is kid things
Seemed like nothing at all
Kid things make it better than it was
Kid things seemed like nothing at all
But kid things make it better than it was

Hey, what you got that makes you want to be lonely?
Hey, what you got that makes it a better way to be?
She said no, no, no
I can't get any love and it's a Sunday

I said oh, yeah
What makes you think I wanted it that way?
'Cause one or two more smiles from you
And I don't need anything else

What I wanted you to know is kid things
Seemed like nothing at all
Kid things make it better than it was
We're just kids
We spend all night on the phone
It's a kid thing
But I sleep better when I'm not alone

What I want right now is just some more
Gimme more, hey what you think
Is you're not getting any younger
What I know is that you're not really very old

I know you wanna say no, no, no
It feels much better in the summer
Well, if it isn't warm where you're sittin'
Then kitten come on in out of the cold
'Cause all I know is when I'm with you
Well, I don't need anything else

What I wanted you to know is kid things
Seemed like nothing at all
And kid things make it better than it was
We're just kids
We spend all night on the phone
It's a kid thing
So I sleep better when I'm not alone

Kid things seemed like nothing at all
Kid things make it better than it was
We're just kids, just like driving a car
It's a kid thing and the further out
The closer in you are

General CommentMy favorite lines in this song are "Cause one or two more smiles from you and I don't need anything else." And the other version: "Cause all I know is when I'm with you well I don't need anything else."

General CommentGreat song that I can't help but smile to whenever I hear it. It's very playful and obviously about flirting with a girl that is either unattainable or just playing hard to get.

General CommentI think this is the more upbeat version of Murder of One. I think they are both about trying to get through to people in bad relationships.

General CommentLike Pechorin I also thought of Murder of One when I really started to listen to this song. I think it's definately about Adam trying to get this girl out of a bad relationship like in MoO.
Adam begs her to get out of the relationship: "Better leave when to stay is only nothing but being alone".
But the girl rationalizes and hopes her boyfriend will change for the better: "It feels much better in the summer". She would rather stay in a bad relationship than be by herself: "But I sleep better when I'm not alone". And after all she thinks that she's "not getting any younger".
The girl could actually easily be the same person as the girl in MoO. You'll find the nickname Kitten in both songs: "Well if it isn't warm where you're sittin' then Kitten come on in out of the cold" (Kid Things). "Curiosity, Kitten, doesn't have to mean you're on your own" (MoO). And it's not the only link between the two songs.
I might be way off, it's getting late in Denmark :o)
Anyway, great song and a great band.

General CommentThis song is the bonus track at the end of _This Desert Life_, after the end of _St. Robinson_ and a couple of minutes of silence. I like to think they put it there for people who listened to the album and ended up so depressed they couldn't get out of their chairs.

It's a bit of an antidote. You know... "Counting Crows may have made you despair about life, but there's still fun to be had. Now by god, get up out of that chair and go build a snowman!"

General Commentlove this song so much. for me it's about everyone trying to grow up too damn fast and we never sit around and just enoy the "kid things". like new relationships and loves :)
