This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
I fell asleep today
It rained all afternoon
The apartment felt too small
I take up to much room
The night has worn away
But she hasn't disappeared
I wanted to say goodbye
But the lonely gray of privacy abounds
Like the kings of ancient times
The light has struck, opened our eyes
And what we saw
The glory of our life unfolds before us
At the edge of all our dreams
Nothing is the way it seems, we used to be
As history wipes clean the slate that sits
In our eyes, in our eyes
I fell asleep today
It rained all afternoon
The apartment felt too small
I take up to much room
The night has worn away
But she hasn't disappeared
I want to say, I want to say
I want to say goodbye
And you, you'll always be my friend
(I fell asleep today, it rained all afternoon)
I never wanted this to end and now it has
(The apartment felt too small, I take up to much room)
(The night has worn away but she hasn't disappeared)
Forgetfulness will dry the tears that fall
From our eyes
(I want to say, I want to say, I want to say goodbye)
From our eyes, from our eyes
It rained all afternoon
The apartment felt too small
I take up to much room
The night has worn away
But she hasn't disappeared
I wanted to say goodbye
But the lonely gray of privacy abounds
Like the kings of ancient times
The light has struck, opened our eyes
And what we saw
The glory of our life unfolds before us
At the edge of all our dreams
Nothing is the way it seems, we used to be
As history wipes clean the slate that sits
In our eyes, in our eyes
I fell asleep today
It rained all afternoon
The apartment felt too small
I take up to much room
The night has worn away
But she hasn't disappeared
I want to say, I want to say
I want to say goodbye
And you, you'll always be my friend
(I fell asleep today, it rained all afternoon)
I never wanted this to end and now it has
(The apartment felt too small, I take up to much room)
(The night has worn away but she hasn't disappeared)
Forgetfulness will dry the tears that fall
From our eyes
(I want to say, I want to say, I want to say goodbye)
From our eyes, from our eyes

This song doesn't have a comment. So I'll comment on it. It's a nice song. Good Commander Venus stuff. Go Conor.

This song? It's awesome. It's just beautiful. "Forgetfulness will dry the tears that fall from our eyes." Words that could never be more true. Real poignant lyrics. Mmm.
I like the dissonance in this song. It adds so much more to it.
I love the lyrics. So cutting, and true, and relate-able.
