The shape of your head is a twist of the truth,
The skulls on these walls, are they connected to you?
The stars are like eyes climbing out of a mist,
The temperatures rise like an easter morning sun,
Its not something you learn its just something you do,
And sometimes I wonder whether my other half is you.

Cause I am only half, of what I am,
And half of that is what, the lies can do,
Where the rest is, I don't know,
And I'm not sure if I wanna know.

Back on my own, it took me this long,
To scale to the top of this (grassy/misty) mountain side you're on,
But now I can see where its all been leading to,
The skulls on these walls, how they're connected to you,
Walking with you down a slippery slope, and you said,
"If I was the sun, you'd be the world I'd shine onto."

General CommentI think this is such a beuatiful song, he almost sounds frustrated when he sings the line its not something you learn its something you do. He sings with such emotion.

General Commentsurprised there is only 3 comments.
first time i heard this song , i didnt really fully appreciate it. but the way his voice sounds is so frustrated that is true. its like hes trying to get across a message to someone but they wont listen.
"Cause I am only half, of what I am,
And half of that is what, the lies can do,
Where the rest is, I don't know,
And I'm not sure if I wanna know."
i think this could be about how no one really knows who they are , we just perceed to exist , hes not sure he wants to know who he is .
i dont really know ,its a pretty hard song to decode, but the build up at the beginning is great. its a very beautiful song , because it all seems so unsure , but i think it might be about love.

General Commentthis is my favorite song off the first album. i cant tell if its a love song or about regret, but i think its about how he's in love with this girl and theyre together and it doesnt matter if the rest of his life doesnt fall into place, he's got her and thats the only part of himself he needs.

General CommentIt appears to me that this song is about the frustration that exists in a relationship. When he says "back on my own it took me this long to the top of this misty mountain side you're on" it seems (to me) that he's telling that it was very difficult for him to get to be with the person he supposedly loves and then he says "but now I can see where it's all been leading to, the skulls on these walls how they're connected to you" as if scaling that "mountain" only brought him pain. It looks (to me) as if his other half is constantly hurting him by lying about herself (I suppose it's a "her") so he says that he's only half of himself and wonders if she is really his other half. Maybe this is too confusing, maybe this is completely wrong, but that's the way I feel about this song. Anyway this is my favourite song from from AYWKUBTTOD - one of my favourite bands. "If I was the Sun you'd be the World I'd shine onto" is a beautiful line indeed. I used to send messages containing that line to my girlfriend almost every day.

General CommentI'll give a little spin on this. It's definitely a song about a relationship.

But I feel there is sort of a reference, to their namesake. "...Trail of Dead." is an excerpt from a Mayan ritual prayer. A lot of the images of this song seem to depict a Mayan sacrifice or temple. "The skulls on these walls, are they connected to you?" could refer to walls of skulls that surrounded the temples. And "To scale to the top of this (grassy/misty) mountain side you're on" reminds me of images of the Mayan/Aztec pyramids, or the jungly mountains of South/Central America. And a lot of references to the Sun, which was one of the many reasons for the sacrificial rituals.

Dually, I think these images reflect onto a relationship, one that is difficult and destructive. "Cause I am only half, of what I am,
And half of that is what, the lies can do,
Where the rest is, I don't know,
And I'm not sure if I wanna know." Half of his soul/humanity has been destroyed. The other half is in poor shape from the lies of himself or the other. Trying to recover the rest may be too painful or disturbing/self destructive.

It also seems to show, that despite their may being a long running amount of pain in the relationship, it is still difficult to leave due to the attachment one has to the other. "If I was the sun, you'd be the world I'd shine onto.", "And sometimes I wonder whether my other half is you."

General CommentNo one knows what this is really about, other than the man who wrote it. I wish they still wrote songs like this.

General CommentThe chorus works so well. The first three lines make it sound like he wants his missing half back, as it were, but then he realises that maybe he doesn't... because of whatever caused it to go missing in the first place.

To anyone who likes this song... I'd recommend getting hold of the Mistakes & Regrets single, as a re-recorded (and much better) version of this song is a b-side on it.
