I don't need to fall at your feet
Just 'cause you cut me to the bone
And I won't miss the way that you kiss me
We were never carved in stone
If I don't listen to the talk of the town
Then maybe I can fool myself

I'll get over you, I know I will
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'Cause I'm the king of wishful thinking
(King of wishful thinking)
I am the king of wishful thinking

I refuse to give in to my blues
That's not how it's gonna be
And I deny the tears in my eyes
I don't wanna let you see, no
That you have made a hole in my heart
And now I've got to fool myself

I'll get over you, I know I will
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'Cause I'm the king of wishful thinking (I'll get over you, I know I will)
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'Cause I'm the king of wishful thinking, yeah (king of wishful thinking)

Oh no, I will never, never shed a tear for you
I'll get over you (I know I will)

If I don't listen to the talk of the town
Then maybe I can fool myself

I'll get over you, I know I will
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'Cause I'm the king of wishful thinking (king of wishful thinking)
I'm the king of wishful thinking

I'll get over you, I know I will
You made a hole in my heart
But I won't shed a tear for you
I'll be the king of wishful thinking
I'll get over you (I know I will)
I'll pretend my heart's still beating
'Cause I've got no more tears for you
I'm the king of wishful thinking
I'll get over you (I know I will)
You made a hole in my heart
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'Cause I'm the king of wishful thinking

so few comments, damn. i love this song, always have. its not really the style of music i like, but this songs just gets to me. well...obviously its about a relationship thats just ended. possibly with someone cheating or something controversial ("if i dont listen to the talk of the town"). the singer was the one that was dumped, and is still in love with whoever theyr singing about. they feel like its killing,("ill pretend my hearts still beating") them, as we all do when we're dumped, but they are trying to move on and trying to convince themselves that they dont need their ex anymore even though they realise its going to be hard... thats my opinion anyway. rock on.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
