Well, I've been down so Goddamn long
That it looks like up to me
Well, I've been down so very damn long
That it looks like up to me
Yeah, why don't one you people
Come on and set me free
I said, warden, warden, warden
Won't you break your lock and key
I said, warden, warden, warden
Won't you break your lock and key
Yeah, come along here, mister
Come on and let the poor boy be
Baby, baby, baby,
Won't you get down on your knees
Baby, baby, baby,
Won't you get down on your knees
Come on little darling,
Come on and give your love to me, oh yeah
Well, I've been down so Goddamn long
That it looks like up to me
Well, I've been down so very damn long
That it looks like up to me
Yeah, why don't one you people
Come on, oh come on, come on and set me free

General CommentGregorybrian, your way off here pal. This is a great song and displays the rawness and brutalness of his emotions at the time. Every person who hears this song can feel the pain at which he is in. That's the point of it and that's why it's a blues song, because he's blue. Whether you like it or not, many see it is a great one.

General Commenti love the lines, "i've been down for so goddamn long that it looks like up to me." to me its like when youve been depressed for so long it starts to make you happy because you find comfert in it and you really cant tell what actual happiness would feel like.

General CommentJim had to free himself with drugs an alchohol. Everyone called him a drunk, but didn't do anything to help him.

My InterpretationThe line "been down so long that it looks like up to me" is taken from a book by Richard Farina. Although it does seem depressive. Deos this reflect Jim's mood at the time of writing this?

General CommentRichard Farina's book "Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up To Me" (1966) inspired Jim Morrison's lyrics. It's about a young hippie-type college student who is obsessed with sex and drugs.
