"Skip Tracer" as written by Kim Gordon, Lee M. Ranaldo, Steven Jay Shelley and Thurston Joseph Moore....
This she did in public for us to see
She came in here too drunk to do the show
Between the trains and cars
Broken glass and lost hub-caps, images of a gun
Row house row house pass through
Let the city rise up to fill the screen
Clothes flung out of closets, doorknobs falling off
The guitar guy played real good feedback, and super sounding riffs
With his mild mannered look on, yeah he was truly hip
The girl started out in red patent leather
Very I'm in a band with knee pads
We watch her fall over and lay down,
Shouting the poetic truths of high school journal keepers
Row house row house pass through, let the city rise up
Twister, dust buster, hospital bed, I'll see you, see you
See you on the highway
Now we're told so merge ideas, of song forms and freedom
Miss seafood, miss cheesecake, a couple of miss donuts
The edge of a blade pressed to the throat of your reflected image
Poised, yet totally screwed up
Yes sir, yes sir, step right up

None of us know, where we're trying to get to
What sort of live where we trying to build
Now we're told so merge ideas, of song forms and freedom
Seasons out of life, nothing is out of reach
L.A. is more confusing now, than anywhere I've ever been to
I'm from New York City, breath it out and let it in

Where are you now?
When your broken eyes are closed
Head in a cloudy dream, green and sailboats
Borrowed and never returned
Emotions, books, outlooks on life

Hello twenty fifteen!

Hello, twenty, fifteen!

General CommentI seriously cannot stand most of Lee's songs. This is no exception. I don't know, he's just such a dork, vocally. Amazing guitarist of course! But yeah. Keep the mic away from him thx.

General CommentActually I'd like to withdraw that statement. I do tend to like his songs less than the others, but I came off sounding awfully ignorant. He's clearly a very intelligent and talented man. I just find his vocals annoying!

General CommentI always find Lee as more of a poetry reader as opposed to a singer. If that makes any sense.

I agree with Jess55, I can see everything that he's talking about, it's a fantastic song.

General CommentI really like the change of pace that Lee's songs bring to the band. I dig that beat poet thing he's got going on...Pipeline/Kill Time is a fucking masterpiece, but Hey Joni is kinda lame...This is one of my favorite SY songs.

General CommentI thought that on first listening as well MtterOFctItsAllDrk but im pretty certain Sonic youth didn’t write this song during a period of self reflection, I somewhat pity the band on which it was actually based. Go the publicity though even though their band name isn’t in the song, I would feel honoured that sonic youth thought I was ‘important’ enough to base a song on, though I’m guessing they are probably unaware that they were the inspiration for the excellence that skip tracer is because the list bands that meet that description is endless (if your really concerned, it probably says which band somewhere on the big wide web try googling it) What an anthem for the indie kids ahah
Did I mention I love this song?
For those that still have no idea :they are asserting themselves as original NYC cool- taking the piss out of bands who try really hard to approximate what comes naturally to Sonic Youth.
