"Made To Last" as written by and Dan Wilson....
Made to last awhile
And roll on
Made to move in style
And move along
Made to dream of flying
So high
Made to wake up crying
I don't know why

Beautiful one
Asleep in the sun
Secret sweet and sublime
I hope you last a long long time

Made to come alone
And pair up
Flash like a rolling stone
Seventy one

One time love affair
With the earth
Waiting on the air
For some re birth
(For what it's worth)

Wherever you are
Nearby or far
Black, white, lemon or lime
I hope you last a long, long time

My InterpretationI can't remember exact details, but I remember reading somewhere along the lines of this: this song was written in collaboration with david bowie, and it is actually about drugs, that's why its so fabulous. I could be remembering wrong, but regardless, this song is absolutely beautiful.

nahhhh its just a personal joke, but yes i think its about drugs, or life o anyway...i love it!!!

General Commenti love this song. I always thought it was just about human life, how amazing it is in a simple way how we are made to "pair up" in our "one time love affair with the earth". Yet it speaks of true feelings. e.g in the lines i love...

showing we have certain expectations and how even though life is meant to be simple we humans are a bit more complicated and sensitive.

General CommentThis is the other hidden treasure on the “Feeling Strangely Fine” album. Last year, this song came up on the stereo right after attending the memorial service of a family friend who had passed after being struck by lightning. As it played, I nearly burst into tears because I interpreted the lyrics as recognition that life is really a short gift to us all. I felt the singer had also lost someone recently and was imploring all his friends and family to last a long, long time.

Whatever the band intended with this song, it is a beautiful reminder to live the life we have to its fullest.

General CommentThis song is beautiful in its own terms and applicable to a number of life events.

I can't remember exact details, but I remember reading somewhere along the lines of this: The lead singer of Semisonic, Dan Wilson, and his wife had a child. The child had health problems or something to that effect, and he penned this out of love and helplessness lest the baby not make it. I could be remembering wrong, but regardless, this song is absolutely beautiful.

General Commentsoo good, its about the kind of love everyone should have for everyone they meet. when a person says "i hope you last a long time" it is pretty much the epitome of selflessness. Nothing would make me happier than seeing you last a long long time

General Commentcouldn't have said it any better myself you guys. as humans we are absolutely putting pressures on ourselves that, if looked at objectively, seem silly and unnecessary. and given that we're all in this crazy struggle that we call life together, we should all be taking care of one another and making sure we all last a long, long time.
