"I'm So Free" as written by and Lou Reed....
Yes I am mother nature's son
And I'm the only one
I do what I want and I want what I see
Huh, could only happen to me

I'm so free
I'm so free

Oh, please, Saint Germaine
I have come this way
Do you remember the shape I was in
I had horns that bent

I'm so free
I'm so free

Do you remember the silver walks
You used to shiver and I used to talk
Then we went down to Times Square
And ever since I've been hanging around there

I'm so free
I'm so free

Yes I am mother nature's son
And I'm the only one
I do what I want and I want what I see
Could only happen to me

I'm so free
I'm so free

Oh, oh, oh, I'm so free
Oh, oh, oh, I'm so free
Oh, oh, oh, I'm so free
Early in the morning, I'm so free
Late in the evening, I'm so free
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm so free
When I feel good, I'm so free
When it's in the morning, I'm so free
When it's in the evening, I'm so free
I'm so free, I'm so free
I'm so free, I'm so free
Feel so good, now, I'm so free
Oh, oh, oh, I'm so free
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm so free
Oh, oh, oh, I'm so free
Feel so good, now, I'm so free
Feel little nice, I'm so free
Feel little down, now, I'm so free
You're so free, I'm so free
I'm so free, I'm so free
I'm so free, I'm so free
I'm so free, I'm so free

General CommentAh, I like to think it's about feeling good without taking drugs.

General Commenti used to think this was autobiographical too
    but i had a realisation

now - especially if you listen to the whole album - most of it is sorta reporting from the streets not really autobiog
and i now think this song is another of lou's critiques of a subculture/stereotype

its about hippies - i dont think lou really likes hippies

    hes ny east coast
and hippies tend to be more west coast california

(ive never been to usa in my life - but you know what im mean;)

hes taking the piss outa hippie- types in the song
its quite a well crafted funny song if looked at like this

    he's really ripping it going
ooh look at me - im so free la de da de da da!!!!!

My Interpretationkeeping in tone with the album and the beatles' reference makes me think this song is a bit more existential...putting down people who try so hard. hippies or anyone who buys into something like that and tries to be 'something' instead

    wish i could expand better
