"Les And Ray" as written by and Johanna Fateman Kathleen M Hanna....
Nine years old and climbing out the house
Through a song played on piano
By my neighbors Les and Ray

I put my head up against the wall
To be closer to the music that they played

You were my oxygen
The thing that made me think I could escape
This is a thank you song for Les and Ray

You were my batteries
The thing that made me think I could escape
Here's a song for Les and
Here's a song for Les and Ray

General Commentyou have a miserable childhood. you think of escape. you have neighbours who play musical tunes on the piano. their songs and the idea of them singing together---all happy and having fun together---gives you hope that someday this (the miserable childhood) too will come to pass.
i love this song. makes me wish i had neighbours like les and ray when i was growing up.

General Commenti think she uses Les and Ray as a metaphor, in order to say that music is what gets you through many things, that can help you escape, make you think

General CommentHas anyone read the "The heart is a lonely hunter" ? This really reminds me of Mick Kelly and her passion for music. How she sneaks out of her house and spends the night sitting in a bush just to listen to the music coming from her rich neighbour's house.
