I can't make anything
Of why the brightest light fades
Or how you slept a sleepless slumber
And through the rhythm of the timeless season
And you are the dark on my soul
And it's your love that I steal
And you're my cuts that won't close
And this I'm certain
And this I'm certain
And this I'm certain

I don't see anything
Through all your worries
And the worst in people
And you're the builder of your own high temple
And that's the magic of your mind
And you're the reason that I'm down
But you're the promise that I found
And you're all that I got
Who's the meanest
And who's a genius
And who's mine

And from the bed you lay and wonder
And from the morning come like thunder
It's the downfall of your time
And you're the dark of our home
But still the home that I feel won't let up
Or let go
And this I'm certain
And this I'm certain

i think this song is about how a girl meant absolutely everything to him; he so reveres her that she even becomes an idealized caricature of herself; so great that he almost resents it, but at the end of the day his love for her overcomes even that resentment

this is one of RHP's better songs, i think

this song is really heartfelt on a mature level. if someone were to ask me what true love is, i would probably just tell them to listen to this song.

it amazes me how few people have ever heard this song.

buenos, you're right about it possibly being the best unknown song. it's a sort of privilege to know it at all :). great melody, great heartfelt lyrics...

i think i got a more correct version here, tho (look closely for differences):

i can't make anything of why the brightest light faded or how you slept a sleepless slumber and through the rhythm of the timeless season and you are the dark on my soul and it's your love that i steal and you're my cuts that won't close

and this i'm certain and this i'm certain and this i'm certain

i don't see anything through all your worries and the worst in people and you're the builder of your own high temple and that's the magic of your mind and you're the reason that i'm down but you're the promise that i found and you're all that i got

who's the meanest and who's a genius and who's mine

i can't take anything and from the bed you lay and wonder and from the morning come like thunder it's the downfall of your time and you're the dark of our home but still the home that i feel won't let up or let go

and this i'm certain and this i'm certain and this i'm certain

I think it's just about living with someone for a few years, how difficult it is and how it's very tough to leave such a situation. "I can't anything of why the brightest light fades."

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
