"Winterlong" as written by and William Patrick Corgan....
and if I fall
into you all
will my rain
cease and dissolve?
some come to harm
others to grace
so let my friends fly
under these wings

we’re giving it up to the sun
we’re giving it up to the moon
we’re giving it up to the earth
we’re giving it up from our own

knowin’ there’s nowhere to run
knowin’ there’s not much to lose
sometimes it seems so long
since you had a chance to refuse

we built a fire
winterlong
transformed new wire
winterlong
i was the first one
i was the last one to be strong

and if I fall
into you all
will the silence
shatter and stall?
some feel movement
others stand still
so let the moment
become my will

we’re giving it up to the sun
we’re giving it up to the moon
we’re giving it up to the earth
we’re giving it up from our owns

knowin’ there’s nowhere to run
knowin’ there’s not much to lose
so why does it take so long
to find out who is who

we built a fire
winterlong
transformed new wire
winterlong
i was the first one
i was the last one to be strong

we’re giving it up to the sun
we’re giving it up to the moon
we’re giving it up to the earth
we’re giving it up from your own

we’re giving it up to the sun
we’re giving it up to the moon

General CommentI can't believe nobody's posted on this song. It's a great one and it's on the b-side/rarities disc of their greatest hits CD. I heard it and taught myself to play it right away. I'm not sure what it's about. It might just be about having great friends that are there for you. They're like a warm fire in the harshness of winter. Something like that.

General CommentI agree about this being a great song, most likely about friendship. No idea why it didn't make the cut to Machina. But apparently there seems to be some conflict over the lyrics. The ones at spfc.org are different than the ones here.

General CommentI think its about friendship and how you learn things from your friends and how you give up certain things for your friends. Also how friends can help you and you help them back, and its a cycle.

General CommentI think the song is about being in his band.
The opening line "if I fall into you all" I see him stood at the front of the stage playing his acoustic contemplating falling into the crowd.
The line "some feel movement others stand still" is about how the audience reacts to slow songs like winterlong.
The rest I think is about band dynamics and recording music together.

General CommentThis song is strongly philosophical, and if you know anything about the religion it is directly related to Wicca
