"Uncle Joe" as written by and Mark Edward Kozelek....
Where have all the people gone in my life
I'm looking at the ceiling with
An awful feeling of loss and of loneliness
The after late night television pain

I'm running out of strength
I'm running, running, running out of strength
And it feels so wonderful to swim in our fears
And divide inseparable, the awakening of life

Oh, Uncle Joe
Could you tell me about what you know?
Of being having mental problems
And their solutions too

I'll give anything a try once
I'll try anything three times
I don't care, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care

But there's no company
That can stand to be with me
So my dependency on you grows
And I am not very well read

And consider I will lose my heart
And can you spare me of my pain?
Can't you spare me of my tears?

Oh, Uncle Joe, Uncle Joe
Uncle Joe, Uncle Joe

And suicide's intentional when I spin in your fear
I am over-influenced by movies
And you should've gone to the fear
To my hope, the darkest hope

Did you know? Lies become the sky
That's all gone to the fear
To my hope, the darkest hope
Do you know? Lies become the sky

General CommentSomeone just pointed this out to me:

Read the last word of ever line of this excerpt from this song.

and i am not very well read
and they say that i will lose my house
and can you tell me of my pain
and can you tell me of my tears

General CommentI think everyone feels this kinda pain once in their life, I know I have. This song is just totally about the loneliness, the vulnerability of living in a huge world and you being so small and unnoticable.

General CommentThis song is one of their best, in my estimation (off their demo(?)- the lyrics are full of grief to me. Anyone with patience should check this band out. Their patience will be ripely rewarded. (as long as you can or want to handle really depressing songs)

Lyric CorrectionI cleaned the lyrics up a bit.

Where have all the people gone in my life?
I'm looking at the ceiling with an awful feeling of loss and loneliness
    The after-late night television pain
I'm running out of strength, I'm runnin' runnin' runnin' out of strength

    And it feels so wonderful
    To swim in our fear
    And it's unacceptable
    The awakening of life

Oh, Uncle Joe, could you tell me what you know?
I've been having mental problems and the solution is unclear
I'll give anything a try once, I'll try anything three times
    I don't care (x4)

    But there's no company
That I can stand to be with me
    So my dependency
    On you grows

And I am not very well read
And did you say that I will lose my house?
And can you spare me of my pain?
And can you spare me of my tears?

    Oh, Uncle Joe

    It was unintentional
When I spit in your beer
    I am overinfluenced
    By movies

Let's all go to the pier tomorrow
    The darkest pool
    Did you know
    Lies below the sky

General CommentI had an uncle named Joe who just died this week. This song wraps around my head and touches base on so many emotions. Mark is absolutely incredible.
