chances last a finite time
in the warm july night time
every care that keeps you from your feet is a care that carries your defeat

you better let 'er rip tonight
with a pocket full of kryptonite
every care that keeps you in your seat is a care that carries your defeat

sing that song you sang long ago
a heartbeat so sure and slow
hold me and don't let go
the fourteenth domino

twenty thousand points of light
sun by day disco ball by night
every care that keeps you from the beat is a care that carries your defeat

sing that song that i used to know
the fourteenth black domino
hold me like long ago
a heartbeat sure and slow

chances last a finite time
in the warm july nighttime
every care that keeps you from your feet is a care that carries your defeat

chances last a finite time and you're running out of time

General CommentI think this song is about missed chances, and that you should take chances or you'll regret it. The "domino effect" would be change set into motion, and maybe this person is the fourteenth domino who refuses to fall down like the rest of the dominos in the chain because they refuse to change. The last line "chances last a finite time and you're running out of time" leads me to believe that my interpretation has some sort of basis. Just my opinion, though.

General CommentI pretty much agree with "The Charade is Over." It's a nice song, with a really infectious beat, regardless of what it's about. I saw Ozma open for Weezer recently, and it was a lot of fun when they played this.

General CommentI think "The Charade is Over" has a point, it does represent the domino effect, though I would also like to point out that The more you change, the more you stay the same, so therefore, the 14th domino may be the one who doesn't change, but in retrospect the people that change changed together, and therefore the 14th domino is the only one who truely change, he was the only one standing up.

General Commentpsychopunkguy..."the more you change the more you stay the same" makes no sense at all. if you're changing frequently (changing more, as you said) how could you stay the same more. if anything you would be staying the same in a different way each time you change, and it will be freuently; thus you'll never be the same for very long. General CommentOk, when did a discussion about an Ozma song become a differential equations analysis?

Anyway, the song is definitely about how one thing leads to another leads to another leads to another, and SOMETIMES it gets you back where you started ("hold me like long ago"). I think the whole song is summed up in the last phrase. Also, does anyone know what the fourteenth domino is? Why fourteen?

General CommentThe brilliance of Ozma; Rock and Roll Part 3 starts with this song saying "Chances last a finite time", and in Last Dance the album closes with "You've lost your last chance".

General CommentLove the song, love Ozma. Came here like everyone else to figure out what the 14th domino meant. Here's my long-shot guesses:

    1. The 14th domino in a standard double-6 set is 3|4 or 7, a number which has a number of special meanings all over the place: just about every religion has references to 7 and numbers with 7 (like 70), sports (like the 7th game of a final), the 7 chakras, and 7 is the phone number code for Russia (Double Donkey is full of Russian stuff).

    2. If you skip the blank tile (I don't know if it goes first or last) then the 14th domino is 4|4 or 8, which could be like an infinity sign if you tip it over. I said long-shot!

    3. It's super obvious, but the 14th domino is right in the middle of the double-six set (has 28 total dominos). So it could be something to do with being in the middle or maybe if you take out the 14th domino then you only make it halfway or something like that.

So basically, I have no idea, but thought I'd put those out there. Any hints from the band out there? The Googles have failed me so far.
