"Bang" as written by Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Steven Alexander James and David Rowntree....
Sitting in a SDT
Waiting for an underground train
To rumble underneath my feet

Bang goes another day
Where it went I could not say
Now I'll have to wait another week

When all is said and all is done
What was said was never done
Don't panic, it's not really worth your while

Bang goes another year
In and out of one ear
Everybody's doing it, so do it too

I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better
I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better

Sitting on the early bus
Passing through the morning rush
It makes no difference that I'm not with you

Bang goes another year
In and out of one ear
Everybody's doing it, I'll do it too

I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better
I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah

I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better
I don't need anyone
But a little of your love can make things better

I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better
I don't need anyone
But a little of your love can make things better

General Commenti have to say i like this song. I think it's less about unrequited love and more the general desire of love. How although you continue living life without love, love makes the world a better place... One thing i'd like to know though is what to they mean by SDT?

General Commentisn't it "waiting for an undeground train to rumble underneath my feet." ?
i'm pretty sure it's about really liking someone, and savoring all the time you're with them, and them not even noticing you.
or it's about nothing at all and they just wrote it really fast.

General Commenti think its about unrequited love, saying you dont need the person because you have your own things to do but then realising that you do need them.

General CommentBlur hate this song, having written it in 15 minutes after they were asked to write another hit. Whatever problems it has, it feels very Stephen Street and is in some ways an indication of their future lyrical direction.

General CommentI think it's a great song... But like many Blur songs, it was rushed like hell.

"SDT"... The only think of is the Scottish Dance Theatre...

So, "Sitting in a Scottish Dance Theatre"

    ... I have no idea.

General CommentAlright. I found out what a "SDT" is. Been doing research and even Damon says this is what it is.

    Sensory Deprivation Tank

It's a tank that you get in and close the lid on. It shuts out all sounds and light, It's full of water so all you are doing is floating.

It deprives you of your senses, but it's supposed to be relaxing :]

General Commentto me it's about monotony first of all. damon seems to cover that in a lot of his lyrics.
    "Bang goes another day
In and out of one ear
Everybody's doing it so do it too"
makes you think of someone (very 'Ernold Same'-like if you will) working a shite, boring job, doing the same thing every day.

the sensory deprivation tank makes a lot of sense, especially in the sense of physical isolation. that can tie into the line "i don't need anyone, but a little love would make things better."
cutting yourself off from chances at love? dunno, i'm rambling really.

fantastic song, great lyrics. unbelievable it's off a debut really. honestly leisure is one of their better albums i think.

    blur rules.

My InterpretationMaybe I'm wrong, but I think it's about the apathy alot of people have about love these days. Although marriage was always viewed (for the upper-classes at least) as a political thing, I think it's sorta true because anyone can get divorced these days and getting married and staying together through the ups and downs isn't a big deal that everyone must abide to, people don't really "try" to hard any more. (In NO way am I saying divorce is bad.) It's also about the apathy about life and the monotony of it. Lines like "Bang goes another day/Where it went I could not say/Now I'll have to wait another week" hint at monotony and pointlessness in daily life, and lines like "Where all is said and all is done/What was said was never done/Dont panic/It's not really worth your while" are about broken promises between couples that don't really matter anymore because love is so cheap and easy to find these days. "Everybody's doing it so do it too" is such a jab at conformity it isn't even funny. And of course the chorus, "I don't need anyone/But a little love/Would make things better" is also about the cheapening of love.

In short, I view this song as a jab to the modern married couple; the husband/wife coming home after a typical day that is pointless, then the apathetic love that follows with it. Love doesn't really matter anymore since there are more things on everyone's mind, people just get married and date people because it's expected and if you don't, then you are frowned upon. "I don't need anyone/But a little love/Would make things better" means "I don't really want to have to get married, but because society would mock me if I didn't then I will to make my life easier."

If you think about it, this song is very sad and very true.
