Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it's only right
To think about the girl you love and hold her tight
So happy together

If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together

I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies'll be blue
For all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies'll be blue
For all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba
Ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they toss the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

So happy together
How is the weather
So happy together
We're happy together
So happy together
Happy together
So happy together
So happy together (ba-ba-ba-ba ba-ba-ba-ba)

Song Meaning:This song, according to "Behind the Hits" by Bob Shannon & John Javna is NOT about a stalker.

It's about a man whose feelings of love aren't returned in kind. The first line, "Imagine me and you, I do" makes most of the song a wish of the narrator. He then goes on about how wonderful things would be IF they were together.

At the end, the odd line, "...how is the weather?" is sung with a slight crack in the voice, because, even after his pleas (with background vocals AND horns to boot!), the object of his affection is STILL not moved, so he is breaking into tears over having lost again, so he tries to change the subject over to something innocuous, like the weather.

As for the instrumentation, it's rather clever. The first few lines are sung with minor or sad chords, but the lines that begin with, "I can't see me lovin' nobody but you..." have major or "happy" chords, which suggest to me that his hopes go up as he goes further into his fantasy. The last few chords are minor, save the last chord, which is major, so if I may take a bit of liberty here, it suggests to he's lost again, but he hasn't given up hope.

So, I don't find it any creepier than, say, "What a Fool Believes" by the Doobie Brothers, which is this song's less-subtle cousin. When I heard this explanation, it put a nice sad, subtext to a great song.

General Comment:Eleanor and You Showed me are just as good as this one I think, I am 19 and an oldies nut so I'm an odd one lol. I heard in an interview with the lead singer that while it sounds like a happy love song, its suppose to be a guy that is wanting this girl that he can't have. THat might explain the dark undertones.

General Comment:I have always loved this song! It is most definitely about unrequieted love. It is amazing to me how many songs with upbeat, happy sounding tunes are really very sad. Like Smashing Pumpkins' "Today"...

General Comment:I think its all a part of his fantasy about her.
Like "imagine", thats why the tone is very solemn
and dark. Almost medieval. This is one of the greatest
songs ever. I don't really like too many covers of it.

Song Meaning:I knew there was something strange about this song even when I heard it as a kid, as, why would he be asking about the weather if they are together?
I don't think it's as creepy and dark as most people are suggesting though, it's more a picture of the playful innocence of adolescent unrequited love.

General Comment:OMG you kids crack me up....it isn't a dark song. Its about a guy who is really into this girl. He can't imagine him being with another. The dime reference is what it cost to use a pay phone back in the 60's. You kids read way too much into some of the lyrics of my youth. How is the weather is a nonsense lyric. It just fit. The Beatles used them all the time. It at times drove people crazy trying to figure out what they were "really saying". Sometimes a lyric is just that a lyric.

General Comment:Cripes. This song used to play on the radio. There is NOTHING negative about it. It's a catchy song about a guy who loves a woman and he can picture them together. It's a lovely, romantic, sweet song. And I don't see how it's about unrequaited love. From the lyrics, we don't know that she doesn't want him. Music is what you make it. It's what your ears hears. Your past experience with (and knowledge of) the subject reflect in your interpretation of it. Come on, People. It's an innocent track. Look at when it was written and the differnces between music of that era and today. Gosh!
