"Girls Just Want To Have Fun" as written by and Robert Hazard....
I come home in the morning light
My mother says when you gonna live your life right
Oh mother dear we're not the fortunate ones
And girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

The phone rings in the middle of the night
My father yells what you gonna do with your life
Oh daddy dear you know you're still number one
But girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have--

That's all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls-- they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun

Some boys take a beautiful girl
And hide her away from the rest of the world
I want to be the one to walk in the sun
Oh girls they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have

That's all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls--they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun,
They want to have fun,
They want to have fun...

General CommentI think what she's saying is that girls want to do what THEY want to do, not what Mommy, Daddy, Husband, or Boyfriend have in mind for them. They want to be able to have the freedom to do what they want, whether it's go out or whatever.

Memoryonce i googled my friends name and found a video of him drunkenly singing along and dancing in his underwear to this song. then i told him. then it disappeared. which was really sad because that was definitely one of the best moments of my life. he's a funny kid. he had a tendency to hang out in the dorm hallways in his boxerbriefs, anyway.

General CommentIt's about the feminist revolution, and women embracing womanhood whole heartedly and with pride.

General CommentThis song is liberating in many aspects. The music is full of life. Cyndi's vocal is so piercingly high and bright. The way she sings is so free and effortless, assertive but not aggressive. Even the title that uses the casual "wanna" instead of the formal form "want to", suggesting the sense of a small rebellion. I particularly love that even though it is a cheerful pop song, it has a touch of reality, talking about jobs, adult responsibility and social expectations. It's an anthem of modern women, who are seeking happiness for themselves in the world full of seriousness and restrictions.

General CommentSo the same would apply to the word boys? Where do you come up with your thoughts? You remind me of that twit ILUVYOU I just commented on. I don't mean to be insulting but your opinion just annoyed the piss out of me. This song had nothing to do with feminism, and or mens or womens rights. I know who and what Cyndi was about but you're reading way too much into it. It's just saying that that girls just love to play and don't want to hear mommy and daddy nag and that maybe "I
m not so much of a girl anymore"
